I find this to be just as interesting...

https://youtu.be/4vQe3ui08sA

Sony makes a complicated case, so does LG. It's interesting as they are likely not trying to play to mainstream consumers...but are judged by mainstream consumer's standards.

It's why I like and dislike Android simultaneously.
I find it odd that any phone manufacturer would try to play off a phone camera to serious photobugs as a pro's alternative. I would think a serious photog would use a standalone 35mm camera for the "right" shot and carry a good phone with other features not ballooning the price tag well north of a grand. Most consumers, from what I understand, post pictures to social media and call it a day. Don't get me wrong, that Sony looks enticing on paper but not for that kind of paper.

Last time I remember, DSLR gear is heavy as all hell to walk around with - even if you're out and about with one shell and a lens. The technology should be pushed that on a mobile platform to get as closer to traditional photography as best as possible - give the laws of physics.

My thing is that these pocket computers have the processing power to do so. I'm all for the tech being pushed. I do agree with the concept that not every phone should be for everyone.

Phones have become ubiquitous and this push to make all flagship be mainstream to me doesn't work. But as usual, I'm in the minority.

I get what you mean but there's one immutable fact and that's mobile phone cameras are limited in lens size. Technology can only go so far and it's unreasonable to expect even vaguely similar results. You can't replace a 20lb. sledgehammer with a meat tenderizer when knocking out steel posts. Good enough has to be good enough as far as phone cameras are concerned.

Obviously the weight differences are not the same but music aficionados gladly put on wired headsets to listen to their favorite tracks because phone speakers simply can't cut the mustard. Volume-wise a 35mm isn't much bigger than a set of Sony headsets but yeah, a lot lighter and don't need a carrying case other than your head.

I didn't forget about the sensor size. That's the physics involved. It still doesn't mean that we should have this cookie cutter approach to smartphone photography that we currently have.

The equipment is half as good as the user. I've seen some talented folks get some great shots out of a phone - one of the reasons why the old Pureview cameras, including the 1020 was so revered.

What I heard though is interesting...can you imagine using a phone as the brains of high end film equipment, in the same vein of using casings for different lens with DSLRs? What I'd love to see Sony do is better support the tech...porting features and providing updates.

DSLR gear is still heavy but the mirrorless cameras are a lot lighter.

Sony is pushing the tech on that at the moment.

But even the new traditional DSLRs are lighter than they used to be.

Though a large lens is not going to be light, ever.

I'm with you on the specialised smartphone. This one size should fit all nonsense is just that.

I wouldn't mind seeing a smartphone with interchangeable lenses. Not traditional camera lenses of course.

If it could be kept slender that would be pretty amazing.

I'm watch this porsche Mate 20 pro getting cheaper and chuckling. It's now under $900. Still too expensive. Will it get to be under $750? At that price point, it might be interesting. But that would mean selling my regular Mate and I'm seeing people wanting my Mate for $350. That's funny - need to get at least $400 post Swappa fees for the thing. If I cannot recover 50% at minimum, I won't do it. I've got a color that's hard to find and I'm fine with the original Mate.

It SUCKS MASSIVELY having to now pay taxes on Swappa as a buyer. I mean, I get it it...i just don't like it. It really kills the deal making ability. I used to love how as an enthusiast marketplace you could wheel and deal there with the appeal being no tax.

To me, I like Sony stating that they want to make their version of a smart mirror less camera experience. Because it's Sony they won't do this, but I'd love to see them kill the Xperia's native camera app and just use the Google one. Then you dump all the money making features in the pro mode apps. It's not that I don't think the native camera app shouldn't be good, it just depends on the consumer focus.

For example, I love LG's manual mode. Everyone here knows this. I don't like their auto mode as much, even though the V50's is nice. Since I don't shoot as many life shots (people based moments), when I fire the camera up, I go into manual mode right away. But for those fewer times I want to do life shots quickly, I prefer the Pixel 3XL or the Mate 20 Pro. No camera on Android can give me both - nor can iOS.

So I like the idea of Sony splitting off both as I wished someone else did this. But the issue is focusing on really pushing the camera tech where someone like me wants that versatility of a great manual mode and a great auto mode on one device.

Lunch was a poki bowl.

Tomorrow is small trip in Paris if we're able to walk :]DSC_0578-01.jpgDSC_0583-01.jpgDSC_0568-01.jpg

Nice pictures. Where's the booze?
Well we don't really drink that often.

However, it's not illegal to drink in public or parks in France. We were about 20 metres from the sidewalk.

You'll see many people by the Seine River with a bottle of wine or champagne.

Maybe in my birthday..
