On corona: the cases are now in the lower double digits for past two weeks. Occasionally a spike shows up when they test detainees & undocumented (non-legal) foreign workers/visitors in detention centres. We are quite similar with Singapore, we are dependant on workforce from neighbouring countries. Its a black mark on us. We need foreign labour, but we also turn a blind eye toward their cramp and sometimes deplorable living conditions. We need to wake up and change.
The national Eid holidays is over, but another long holiday weekend has begun for the state's Harvest Festival. Most business has open up, and people are back moving about. We are weary of an another wave of clusters...

Well we don't really drink that often.

However, it's not illegal to drink in public or parks in France. We were about 20 metres from the sidewalk.

You'll see many people by the Seine River with a bottle of wine or champagne.

Maybe in my birthday..
Yeah...call me when there's a shot of the booze on tap.

And of course in Murica you can't walk around (at least in my parts) all brazen with an open container.

Quick story on that...it was a New Year's Eve (maybe 2006) I was headed someplace. Popped into a liquor store in Murray Hill (east side midtown Manhattan nabe) and bought a large Heineken. So I'm walking and drinking - street was sparsely populated and I decided not to give two about the open container rule. In fact, this white male walked past me and stared in disbelief. The best part was I came up to a parked NYPD patrol car with two officers inside. I looked over, had a pull on the beer and kept walking once the light changed. I gave them the "do you really want to to do paperwork for this look" to one as he gave me the "do you realize what you're doing" look.

Would I do that now in this climate? HECK No. But the look on both the officers and the dude who walked by me that night was priceless.

NYC is set to open up starting Monday and then phase one officially on 06/08. I'm not feeling any of it but what can I do...

That seems too early, I hope I'm wrong. We have several states with just a few cases in the past three weeks and they are playing it very safe ie no gung-ho openings.
Everyone wants a great haircut, a good foot massage, etc... but that ain't happening

I'm watch this porsche Mate 20 pro getting cheaper and chuckling. It's now under $900. Still too expensive. Will it get to be under $750? At that price point, it might be interesting. But that would mean selling my regular Mate and I'm seeing people wanting my Mate for $350. That's funny - need to get at least $400 post Swappa fees for the thing. If I cannot recover 50% at minimum, I won't do it. I've got a color that's hard to find and I'm fine with the original Mate.

It SUCKS MASSIVELY having to now pay taxes on Swappa as a buyer. I mean, I get it it...i just don't like it. It really kills the deal making ability. I used to love how as an enthusiast marketplace you could wheel and deal there with the appeal being no tax.

I agree about Swappa and taxes. Ugh.

Talking about taxes...

Ever since I left North America I don't even think about sales tax. Not sure about Mexico but Canada is similar to the USA.

In Europe and Australia it's typically included in the price of everything already. So the price you see is the price you pay. There's no calculating tax on top of stuff.

I simply don't understand the system in North America and I didn't when I lived there either.

I always thought it was so painful.

Don't miss it.

My legs are dying....

Normally that length of walk wouldn't bother me but it just goes to show what two months of not moving too much can do to you.

Need to get more active again.
I haven't been doing any long walks either.. when I do, I'm sure I'll need a follow up to the foot reflexologist!!!

I agree with you here, as I've experienced similar issues. Plus, these surgical masks aren't designed for the types of environments that are being used in.

I ordered a pairs of masks that I'm waiting to arrive. I think that and more exercise should help me better navigate the summer. It'll be tricky as we normally want to wear less to stay cool. Not sure how this masked world will be.

As I've mentioned previously, I'm not removing my mask until there is a long term therapy in place. This will be hard for me in certain situations.

For example, one of my attendings has an annual summer BBQ. They're still deciding about it. If they do and I choose to go it's going to be a bit of a tight fit because of their spacing issues. Also, we usually hang out in bars periodically after work. I'm likely not going to feel comfortable ordering food out. Plus, I finally found a neighborhood bar I wanted to start frequenting. Not sure how that will look. This has also killed our eating out as the gf and I end up to end up in smaller restaurants.

For the club goers, there was always that one creepy guy at the club. How do you balance safety with nefarious people wearing masks vs health safety? Have no idea.

That's the problem when the media gets weaopnized a certain way. Everyone knows that in Murica there is a spectrum of press coverage. At one end you find the MSNBC which lean more liberal (democrats) and the other Fox News which leans more conservative (republican). When the current president weaponizes the media by cuddling up to the sections that praise him and vilify the sections that critique him, this happens.

I can understand protests. I can understand the anger.

I don't understand the violence.

I sympathized a bit with the so called 'yellow vest' movement here in France until they started destroying things and making a mess of the country.

I know there are those who take advantage of situations like this and that's what makes this whole thing difficult. Who's protesting and who's just there to take advantage?

It's difficult to know if what's happening is beneficial for the cause. It's this going to bring about change? Is this going to cause more stereotyping?

I can see things going south real quick if it continues.

Especially if 45 sees this as an advantage...
