WC 1M Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

So, the big news.

I got a job!

To be clear I didn't go looking for one I got contacted by a recruiter.

I went to the interview on Wednesday and got offered the job on the spot. They even pointed to where I would be sitting. This isn't unusual for me. The pay negotiations took a bit more time due to several misunderstandings. That finalised late yesterday.

I wanted to tell my mother before telling anyone else so you guys are the third in my list. Feel special...

So lastly, where is my job???

Paris, or to be precise, near Versailles.

What does this mean? Well, we're moving to Paris of course.

The position is a contract position. It's going to be for about 1 year (maybe longer,) but it's broken down in three month chunks, which is slightly annoying. So at this time I'm only looking at three months, however we will be staying for as long as necessary to get our house renovation completed. This of course depends on the project and the company liking me etc... Which I plan to ensure they do. I think this break I've had has helped a lot being away from the industry.

So I'll be starting in January. The date hasn't been set yet but I should know on Monday.

We're approaching this in a positive way. It wasn't what we wanted to do but sometimes you need to just get on with it. This will help immensely with getting our project farm going on the right direction.

We plan to get people in to do the work on our house and we'll get going on the farm when we return. So it's all good.

The other benefit is that we'll have more opportunity to speak French. So lots of positives here.

We'll only be living about 45 minutes from Paris by train so no complaints. The area where my work is really nice. Can't complain.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

There's other things still being sorted out and I'll mention them when they happen. So more cryptic stuff!

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Congrats on the new job :D Can you share what will you be doing?

Thanks!

I'm an electrical design engineer. I'll be working on cathodic protection of an offshore facility.

That's all I know at this stage.

Congrats Rue.
Actually there is quite a bit of industrial activity near Versailles. My first visit to Paris was in that area. GE has a huge facility nearby specifically their X-RAY machines for medical applications.

I'm glad things worked out for you!
Good luck.

Yes, the area where my work is has large BMW, Nissan and Mercedes buildings. No idea what they're doing there but they're not car plants.

Still lots to find out though.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

He gets to be a Parisian snob too, so that should be a plus...
Ha! Unfortunately the area I'm in isn't really part of Paris but is close to Versailles which apparently is a bit snobby...

Apparently they had a chef on-site who prepared lunch for us and they served wine as well. The French are a bit different that way

Once you said Versailles, you couldn't avoid the snobbiness.

Enjoy it.
