Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Two weeks into the XR experiment and I’m ready to throw in the towel. Face ID is not yet ready for prime time as long as you still have to swipe up after the device recognizes your face. On a 6.1” screen with 18:9 aspect ratio that turns into one long-*** swipe that I find unnecessary. As long as Apple continues to sell Touch ID phones that’s where I’ll go.

To me, it sounds like you gave it a solid try and it's just not working for you so you have to do what's best for you. Considering that this is something you have to deal with up to 100 times a day (just a general assumed number), this must have gotten old fast.

Okay, so today some S10+ pictures. Pixel 3XL pictures will have to wait since Google Photos is not playing nice with Android Q Beta 2 (known issue).

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

I took the most pictures with the S10+ yesterday. Here are a few more.

And last set, some ultra wide camera pictures.

I don't think the pictures do justice to the actual sight.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

The G8 looks decent. I'm not sold on it selling well enough. Meanwhile (like to boost G8 sales), 9.0 updates for the V35, V30/V30S, G7 and V40 is "Q2 2019". Looks like another lost year for LG. A shame, really.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

So the HTC 10 will be ready in a week. LG's radios aren't bad, but you can tell the difference between when their radios work for the network you use and they don't.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Ouch. I appreciate the levels of testing done here though.

Not surprised, really. Again, trying to pigeonhole a niche device into something mainstream based on pricing. That's the mistake that HMD made.

The best flagship they've made since returning is the 8. Not because it was a great phone, but because they made an initial attempt to address the affordable flagship bracket with a balanced offering. They got a pass with the 8 as the camera software was saved by G cam ports. I think they've been doing some concept phones such as the 8 Sirocco and the 9 as marketing ploys to flex their muscles since without a clear flagship. While that is OK, the market isn't the same as before. A polished offering is still needed in the time of rising prices OEMs want to charge + the wide variety of choice that exists in the market.

That's the thing Moto, Sony, LG, HTC and now HMD are running into. Your name doesn't help you sell phones on its own.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

I took the plunge and picked up a Gear Sport. I hope to use the least amount of Samsung apps necessary to make it work. Still like Android Wear, but the hardware situation is so suspect these days.

Everytime I watch an animal based documentary, I am annoyed at the reminder of how destructive humans can be.

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

The itch to try some new devices still remain. Doubt that will change as an enthusiast. It's just getting too pricey and too saturated a market.

The itch is alive and well, there’s just nothing to scratch it. I don’t see a single “must-have” feature to go out and drop a G on a device. Camera features are reaching the point of diminishing returns in my opinion.

Agreed. Only thing I truly want to try now is a Mate RS. Saw one recently for the "I could grab it for S&G and flip it later" price but it was the international model. Coming from the G7+, I wanted something with the US bands. There is a US model out, but it is overpriced and hard to find.

Otherwise, there isn't anything. I could use a XZ3 as a back up or get a N 9 (software and fingerprint scanner issues and price as a no right now), but nothing that screams "cut corners and buy me"!

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

The nice thing with LG is if you've manually updated one, you can manually update them all. Always nice when you get a carrier branded unit and can flash another ROM to vanish away that "bloat".

I feel both of you on this. Before learning about the S10e, I was really indifferent. Weighed all of my options with no gain seemingly.

I'm still surprised that it is actually a thing considering that I have had one for weeks now.
