WC 1M Post Challenge - You Ready?!

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

I don't miss the days of dealing with power outages consistently as a child. It's get "country dark" where I grew up...which was still brighter than the true "country dark" I'd see when spending summers by my grand aunt. You know that kinda darkness when you shine a flashlight into it you only see 2 feet in front of you.
Wow that sounds scary.

Power is restored! May it stay on...

Re: WC 150K Post Challenge - You Ready?!

It's amazing and yet sad at the same time where I can get a G8 under $400 in mint condition.

It's kinda what makes LG such a bargain bin brand. That's good but not so good simultaneously. They make good phones. They haven't made a great phone since the G4/V10.
So I saw an unlocked V40 with 9.0 on it today at B&H. I was also cracking up that the unlocked V40 and G8 were essentially the same price. $800+. SMH.

I wasn't too impressed with what I saw LG did with 9.0. So while I'm not rushing out for it, I still have to SMH at their software center they opened a year ago and the increase in speedy updates that has happened since then. (massive sarcasm alert).

Here's why i rag LG so much - the V20 launched with 7.0 and was stuck on 7.0 forlst of its life. I got 8.0 Christmas 2018 and I think that's it (Laura, help me out here). 8.1 would have added some nice features for it. But, that's that.

My G7+ is still on 8.0. So is my V35. Now, I could flash black the AT&T bloat on it to trigger the 9.0 update, but I'm not doing that. LG phones are easy to manually update, but I have to wait until the .kdz file is available for me to update the V35. Now this wouldn't be so bad if LG allowed custom ROMs on their phones, but they locked the bootloader a while back. So you're stuck with slow software support.

It just doesn't jive for the price they are asking for, when you can also argue on a hardware level, they have pulled an incremental update since the G6 design. Still, the products are solid, but solid ain't cutting it.

Good post! This is so true, it does seem harder now. I appreciate that you continue to write.
Just tried to show the human side of it. Sometimes that stuff gets lost in the act of merely consuming content.

At my farm it can get very dark when there's no Moon out. We have a powerful flashlight to help when needed. In the winter it gets dark early so need to go out some times.

Wet haven't got much in the way of trees etc in our land currently as that always makes for a more enclosed feeling.

In some ways, I miss living in the plantation. Did that for 15 years prior until the family sold of the property in 2001. The quietness is very calming
My wife, who is city girl, is very keen to build a house and stay in her orchard. I advice her it's best to build a small prefab first and get a feel for it before deciding to move in permanently.

We didn't have much choice where our house is located. It's been there since the 1700's, we think. Could be earlier.

I'm personally keen on higher ground when it comes to houses otherwise you have issues with water, like we currently do. Need to install drainage all around the house. It's a pain.

Amazon is a classic example of capitalism gone wrong and exploitation of workers. Sad to think the union movement of the past has resulted in this.

Amazon is inhumane as far as I'm concerned. They exploit the workers, the cities they move to, pay zero taxes and get tax incentives.

All for what exactly? Selling crap online to people who don't really need it.

Got to love materialism...

I don't think I could live in a rural area. I'm used to city life and the sights and sounds of the city. I'd be bored by the quietness and lack of things to do in a rural area.

I actually grew up in a suburb but moved to the city as an adult.

When I think of suburban life, I think of this. https://youtu.be/EYYdQB0mkEU

I grew up in the city. I moved to suburban life and didn't really like it much.

I then moved around quite a bit between city and suburban life.

I'm currently in a new situation. Suburban rural life... Never knew such a situation really existed.

Even my farm which is really rural feeling isn't that far from things. Including city life. Yes it's not the same as being in the city but it's a good way of having it all.

We actually watched that show he mentioned with the British TV guy climbing Mt Everest. He's not a news person or reporter. Not sure the right title but he does these shows where he visits people who left the rat race for remote living and stays with them for a week to find out more about them.

Even though that particular part he showed was pretty dire the show actually talked about all the issues with tourists and the dangers. That guy describing what happens to your brain at that altitude is from that show.

The TV show guy actually had a climbing partner with him who got altitude sickness and had to leave. He also climbed other mountains prior to doing this and almost didn't make it to the top himself.

That show was actually pretty good overall aside from some bits.

But yes, they are making a mess out of the mountain and there's going to be a lot more deaths for sure. Tourism at it's worst.

Pizza delivery on football nights would be something I'll miss in the farm/rural area.
