That's why I love cats, they simply don't give a flying **** about what pleases you or not. I'm not sure they care about what pleases them!Groups of animals and specific leaders of those groups are evolutionary traits occurring in many species which have the alpha male or the matriarch who is in charge of the social group.
Dogs are a great example. Dogs want to please their pack leader. Therefore, humans only need to show leadership by rewarding dogs when dogs do something good (and should not use fear or aggression against dogs). Dogs want to please humans so much that dogs are easy to train to be our companions as well as to do specific jobs for us.
Dogs also tend to be very adaptable and forgiving of past mistreatment. In many ways they are easier to be around than other people.
