We're all familiar with the rumors of a foldable Surface-type device in development at Microsoft. With all the speculation, there hasn't been much talk of what aspect ratio the screens will be. Considering the combined screen will have a different aspect ratio than the individual screens, which option seems most desirable to you? Which option seems most practical?
3:2 is the beloved aspect ratio of our Surface devices since the Surface Pro 3, so it makes sense that this could be an option for the device. Though interestingly, two 3:2 displays will create a 4:3 display, and two 4:3 displays will create a 3:2 display. So which one would be more preferable? Do you like having a 4:3 display-- the same ratio as an old CRT TV or an iPad?
2:1 is an interesting ratio that has been gaining popularity in phones, especially bezel-less phones with camera notches. It's usually called 18:9 ratio, though that can reasonably be reduced to 2:1. This makes sense on a notched display, since it is big enough to fit a standard 16:9 HD video on the display without the notch disrupting the image. So, 2:1 makes a very nice phone form-factor when folded, and creates a perfectly square display when unfolded.
