What do you LIKE about the new Music app?

For me the fact I no longer get random duplicates has stopped me tearing out what little hair I have left. Seriously, I had occasions of 5 entries for the same song before.....
0nly 5?
you know i was having more than 25 files of each song.
i was having 15 songs and it looked like thousands of song.

Absolutely NOTHING.

Too bad - there are improvements. And I am glad Microsoft put this app forward:
- better navigation - a separate screen for now playing is not handy, as it adds nothing besides song navigation, I prefer macro navigation over micro navigation. now you can swipe once to the right, and then you can return to your collection. I am very happy with this one.
- black background behind the music collection. grey sucks on WP!
- better sound quality, less hiss.
- no random hiss when a next song plays.
- zero chance of duplicate entries (even though they fixed this in WP when you reset your phone).

all in all - as someone who uses his phone as a mp3-player more than a phone - I am happy, though not satisfied yet. there are issues. I am positive Microsoft will address those, as they ask us what our issues are. I trust Joe Belfiore :-)

Question: why does everyone want a search function? I never use it... Or does no one complete the tag info with album names?

Thanks for the user who opened this thread. Too much negativity around this app - which is understandable, but not so much.

sometimes you remember a name and don't know whether it was an artist or an album, at least happened to me several times..

The best and only real feature I noticed is the playlist, finally the playlist feature isn't broken, being able to make a playlist on W8.1 and have it auto show up in WP8.1 is the best thing. This had always been the one feature friends asked about was how the heck to do playlists.

I want a way to kill the music without having to reboot my 920, I can turn it off but out will still show the song paused when I got my phone volume control. I feel I should have a choice to shut it all the way down rather than having to shut my phone off and on to get it out of my volume control...
Any suggestions??

I use stop music, but there are loads to choose from. The best ones will let you create a live tile for your home screen that will halt all playback immediately, or after say 30 minutes (handy at nap time)

w00t - duplicate wars!

Can anybody beat 25, or 15, not sure if I understand the maths in that post, actually......

I'm not having as many issues with the new Music App as most of you. It loads much faster than the older version and search is finally here. The weird issue where it would sometimes make my headphone only play on the left side after locking the screen and getting a notification is gone (most probably a system bug though).

I don't like it that I can't seem to turn off the Xbox Music integration. It is always "Loading" and "Searching" on the background, and updating my music info to stuff that doesn't match. I don't buy music on Xbox and I don't even have the service. I buy music off of Beatport and Juno Download and Xbox doesn't know half of my artists. That's the most frustrating part to me.

got the music update, takes a quick second now and all my artist pop up, I see it still checking for music but I can access all of mine no prob thank god

SO the new update to 8.1 stopped the duplications? What program do you use to put music on your phone?

I actually use the metro Phone app, I just go to add music, then select my music folder and let out get on with it. It skips tracks already on the Phone and so is pretty quick. Not ideal but it works for me until they get a better sync app. I miss some of the old features I got used to on my iPad. Listing all music in the cloud *not* on my device, auto playlists 80s music, recently added etc.

A) quick start and pause from start screen.
B) ability to change volume from start screen, with the addition to change ringer and notifications volume.
C) the background artwork now uses the album artwork if no official background artwork.
D) the lock screen does not grey out if no official background artwork.
E) layout is better plus addition of playlists and addition of creating playlists.
F) syncing across all devices from music added on any device.
G) integration into Cortana.

I won't lie, I still prefer the old hub ever so slightly. But I do love being able to create and edit playlists in the new app version. I'm sure it will eventually be better in every way, but currently it's still got a looooong way to go before I can love it.
