What does everyone think of this? - Samsung could be ditching Android for Windows

This. All I saw in that article was speculation and a few quotes, quotes that don't back up the assertion of Samsung doing any such thing.

If anything, Samsung may make a move with Tizen this November in India. For all we know, any "Microsoft deal" may be to supply Tizen with MS resources like Bing, Skype, Office, OneDrive, etc. just like iPhone and Android. Tizen will need it, as they won't get those from Google.

Sure, what Softpedia alleges could happen, but it is nothing more than guesswork at this point. I have no idea what Samsung's plans are, but I have seen no indication of any big Microsoft/Windows/Windows Phone moves. They have been very quiet lately and see little reason to jump back on to Windows Phone AFAIK.

The Tizen phone is too small to deserve CEO time. It has to be bigger than that.

At this rate, it is doubtful if samsung would ever replace android with either tizen or windows phone. But I do like the thought of samsung pushing out more windows phones, it would be a good reason to look forward to purchasing one if it were to be true.

They've seen Apple succeed by controlling hardware, software, and services(for better or worse), so they want to be as integrated as they are. The problem is that Tizen is nowhere near where ready for prime time(as apps and services go). They'll be loyal to Google as long as they struggle with Tizen, but when it's ready(and they have carrier support[another problem they're facing]), Samsung will launch phones with it. At issue here is if this will help WP in any way, and I don't think it will.

Samsung has had some problems with MS as far as making their patent payments:

So if I was a betting man (which, unfortunately and to the benefit of anyone who has played poker with me on a Saturday night, I am), I would expect MS and Sammy to be hashing out details about that. Could MS services be in the mix for a Tizen phone? Heck, I think Tizen is just a Bada-style flop in the making. But, sure it could be.

I would LOVE for Sammy just to be more dedicated to the WP's they do put out. Maybe some promise to release upper-end WP's on GS5 and Note 4 hardware in exchange for some forgiveness on the back payments owed?

Yep. Just adding "no real facts" to this already gossip-burning fire.

Oh... Sammy will never- EVER- drop Android. Not for the next decade at least. That I will bet on.

Microsoft ditching WP and moving to Android is more likely than Samsung ditching Android and moving to WP.

Yup... It will be all about the services.

If they have the services ensured that unlocks the door for Tizen. What remains to be seen is if Microsoft can utilize what is developed for Tizen. The software always takes a priority with Microsoft

Ditch Android for WP? Samsung won't even release 8.1 for the Ativ series! I suspect there was more of a quid pro quo behind this meeting. Release WP models of all your high-end devices and we'll drop the lawsuit. Sign a 5 year contract and we'll supply whatever services you want for Tizen.

i dont like the sound of this, samsung might make or break windows phone
still chances are blind samsung buyers will help increase windows phone marketshare
as long as MS keeps the Lumia series alive and exclusive,it doesnt matter

They have great hardware available, but their Touch Wiz blows huge chunks AFAIK.

Their hardware isn't that great. If I wanted to use android I'd go Sony over them and even HTC with that average at best camera.

I do like tthat galaxy edge though

Sorry... You sadly mistaken. Sammy has some of the absolute best hardware and what is going to be shown for the Note IV will be the benchmark for some time either with what Microsoft or HTC releases in the spring.

Sammy has been busy with their flagship phones and is the only one I'd go to from HTC.

I've been a user of their Galaxy line since day one and know them extremely well. While they can choke on Touch Wiz even it has improved vastly.

If the talks between Microsoft and Samsung bear fruit in even allowing the new Note to get WP I will bet you a tidy sum nandella will be singing a different tune about market share, because you will see some serious sales of WP then. That's how great of devices they are. While you and a few Nokia heads may poo-paw and complain, the majority of folks will jump at the chance of this device "hand me down or not" especially if it is global from the start.

While this is pure speculation mind you, Threshold may include bring a need for spen support for multiple windows.

Having both flagship phones running WP on all carriers things can be much brighter for the platform and Sammy has the clout to make sure it does...

Samsung does not own android even though most android phones are galaxy. I cannot imagine Sam still makes android phone after 10 years. It will make tizen devices or abandon mobile phone for other new things like spaceship. I cannot even think Google still exist after 10 years. EU and China government will not allow it in their region.

I certainly would welcome this development, though it seems unlikely.

I think the best case scenario we're likely to see would be for Samsung to 1) support their existing windows phones better, 2) release either a version of the top of the line Galaxies, or equally good Windows Phones with some real marketing push on THEIR end, 3) bring their suite of Samsung apps to Windows Phone, either device exclusive or generally available (because that would make switching from Samsung's Android phones to a windows phone easier) 4) Release some entry level Windows Phone hardware along the lines of the Lumia 530 or 635 to try and boost market share and 5) try to get these hypothetical low and high end devices available internationally and on as many US carriers as possible.

I don't see too many of these as being likely, but again, that's my "best case scenario that I see as being in the realm of possibility."

I would love for Samsung to switch to Windows Phone. They're a popular phone company, and if they tried in marketing the devices, it could significantly boost WP market share.

Apart from the minor problems with royalties, samsung sure does now how to bring the best of windows phone even though some of the hardware were from the galaxy line; I would really like to have a samsung ativ se unlocked. :)

Hi guys, I just read this article and it makes me quite excited for the future of Windows.

What are your personal thoughts? Whether you like Samsung or not, it's got to be a great boost for Windows.

Microsoft CEO Meets Samsung Boss, Wants Windows to Replace Android - Softpedia

For Windows Phone this is definitely good news, if it's true obviously.

But as a company for Samsung, this will be suicide. Samsung has it's own way of how it views a mobile OS should look like, that's why you see TouchWiz on Android.

Windows Phone would never allow for a fraction of what Samsung could do on Android, and this is exactly why Huwawei also didn't make Windows Phone again because they thought that WP didn't allow for much OEM creativity.

Android is what makes Samsung phones so great, and I'm pretty sure they won't move to Windows Phone until maybe the day WP gains more than 50% of the marketshare.
