What else do you want Cortana to help you with?

I'd like it if I was able to turn the lights on in any room in my house through an interactive map of each floor - but that's probably something that'll happen way in the future since there'd need to be something also done with the house's light switches.

That is actually more possible than you think, IF you have the money of course. You DO need a home automation system (big $$$) to control your whole home including your lights. Then you just need an app with the SDK that can access Cortana...

I believe there is a few apps in the store for home automation systems (forget what brands) and not sure if they are 8.1/Cortana ready but, with a little work and a BUNCH of money, this could actually be possible.....

I did home theater installs for a few years ($100k+ home theaters/multi-room audio) and worked with some really crazy home automation systems. Very cool stuff...if you can afford it and I'm not talking about the crap your local cable company offers...

Just think.... Walk into your TV room, Hit the search button, say "Cortana can I watch 24" (I don't know first thing that popped in my mind), the TV comes, on, the shades close, the light is dimmed to the perfect lighting for TV watching.....

Yea, it is possible today...with microphones in the room but, it does work on phones with wifi

We've seen Microsoft's Cortana, the personal assistant loaded on Windows Phone 8.1, but aside from capabilities available today, what else would you like Cortana to do? Would you like her to turn on your TV remotely, or perhaps you'd like her to automatically start up your Windows 8 PC as you step inside the front door? Share with us your ideas.

"Cortana, add shaving gel to my shopping list" .. And have it search OneNote for a notebook called "Shopping List" and add the item.
"Cortana, add Disneyworld to my Vacation list" .. And have it search OneNote for a notebook called "Vacation List" and add the item.

You get the idea.. :)

I love Cortana.
I would like to personalize her. Allow the ability to tweak her responses- such as instead of "what can I help you with" - I can change it to "What do you need?" "What's Up, Carmichael?" allowing her to become "MY phone" "MY Cortana".
Allow something such as "Personalize Your Cortana" this also allows the above idea, but more importantly, the user spends time- any amount of time when he/she would like and as much time as he/she would like, to continue working on their Cortana's ability to understand & communicate with them. By completing different "speech tests" where Cortana will ask random endless questions for you answer- and your answer will do 2 things.
First, it may help your Cortana understand your characteristics, personalities, likes and dislikes (similar to a Facebook test- “which Disney villain are you”). This allows it do better organize and complete tasks.
Second, Cortana will focus on trying to understand your speech patterns & rhythms & cadences, your voice, and “arguably” mood, thus personalizing Cortana to better communicate with you with every question, reminder, task you have for her. This THEN can allow Cortana to be voice active, properly- because she will know your voice over others.
The idea to add multiple people to your phone can be an option, such as your wife, you kids, etc- where you can have in an emergency situation- someone else use Cortana- if it deems faster. This can lead to Cortana being a “house phone OS” where you can train the phone you use as a house line to be voice active to members of your family and again- may find itself useful for emergency purposes. For example- someone braking in- you call out to Cortana- to call the police- she does. Someone is choking- instead of leaving their side to grab the phone- you call out to Cortana to call 911.
By then- you can even push Cortana to connect your house security system, while still being personalized to you and your family. “Like the family OS”
Those are my thoughts- do with them as you please.

I haven't tried or tested yet- but having her sync with windows 8 pcs AND windows 7 pcs in my home and work place would be so helpful.
Lets try this senorio: Cortana notices I have arrived to my workplace, she then turns on my computer at my desk- which she is synced up to, so by the time i get to my computer it is ready for me to log in. Same theory when coming home, OR "waking up" When my alarm goes off to wake me up in the morning, Cortana will turn on my computer(s) that she is synced with at my location. Then when I leave to go to work, she will turn off my home computers after x amount of minutes-(during those x amount of minutes- someone else can continue the computer's activity to keep it on to stop Cortana from turning it off) or ask me do I want to turn Computer 1, computer 2, or/and computer 3 off when leaving locations. This allows all my computers to be ready for me.

I think Cortana sounds like Cortana from the game a lot, but sometimes she comes across as "the classic computer voice" if it could get more realistic, the better.
The biggest issue I have with her is the connection issue- not always have enough bars or wifi connection to my provider. If the connection issue in anyway could improve, the better.

I used Cortana to make two notes for me and now the ***** won't tell me what they were or where they are. And she hasn't synced them with OneNote either and what's worse, she forgot to ask me if that's what I wanted. She "knows" I've got OneNOte and OneDrive after all. Cow.

I was thinking it'd be nice to program Cortana to perform certain tasks automatically with little to no interaction from user. Ex: Cortana? (Voice activated😉) please take photos at a specific time or intervals over a period of time. I had an project idea that would be really useful for.

#funfact I find myself often saying "Please" & "Thank you" to Cortana and not sure how I feel about that.
