when i connect my i phone to the laptop it doesnt recognize it

when i plug in my phone to the laptop it wont pop up like its been recognized. i cant access the memory on the phone through the laptop which sucks because i need to clear the device without losing everything and it wont back up on the cloud.

Your iphone? Ok ehm do you have itunes installed? it could also be that your drivers need to be updated (pc drivers). If your drivers are up to date then check online if you can find drivers and download them to install manually
