When to expect Mango hardware?

When should we expect new phones to start hitting the market? Since mango has just been released to manufacturers, does that mean we'll see new mango devices alongside mango release?

So far I think the main thing keeping Wp7 from being extremely popular is the lack of high end hardware. While the Samsung focus is often called the best Wp7 device, but it feels cheap, and lacks the "prestige" of smartphone-ness. There aren't any Wp7 devices that have extraordinary hardware, which is why I've been holding out for new devices... but I'm not gonna wait until the holiday season to get a new phone...

The Samsung Focus build quality is lacking, I agree. But as far as "high end" is concerned. All that's missing is a FFC. WP7 doesn't need a dual core processor and 2 gig of RAM to run buttery smooth. I'm sure you'd be happy with any current model of WP7 software wise. Aslo, all current phones will be able to run Mango.

I'm blown away by the software, to say the least, but it would be nice to see some fancier externals, etc. But what is a FFC?

My cousin works for the Microsoft marketing, and she sent me a message earlier today telling me that they were all given a demo of Mango earlier today, so that makes me think its coming very very soon.

FFC = Front Facing Camera...

not something that I personally have a need or desire for but, I can see that there are plenty of folks out there who really want it so...

Meh. I really couldn't care less about a front facing camera, everyone I know who has an Iphone 4 said they only used it to test out facetime once or twice. The main thing I want, is nice build materials, without sacrificing screen/battery quality. Come on Nokia!

Lol. 100% used it once, laughed, never used it again.

Sent from my Samsung Focus using Board Express

I talked to my cousin a little bit more, she said that at the presentation they were also shown a few new devices that were coming soon, and that there were a couple that were really cool, but she couldn't give me any specifics.

I personally have high hopes for the Nokia Sea Ray, assuming it launches in the US/on AT&T.

Any news of when they are gonna be announced? I think only the Fujitsu has being actually announced and there's not even specs, hands on, press shot of the thing.

I'd assume they'll be coming soon, since Microsoft showed them to their employees today alongside the Mango demonstration. But I did ask her when they will be coming, and she said she would ask the guys in the Wp7 department next week, she's also gonna check on the Nokia release dates if she can. I'll let you guys know if she can find out anything promising.

My Nokia N95 had a FFC -- never used it
My Nokia N97 had a FFC -- never used it
My Nokia N900 has a FFC -- never used it

(see a pattern? :))

Sea Ray isn't coming to the U.S. I'd say more, but I gotta bite my tongue. I'll only say that if you want a high-end Nokia WP7 for AT&T, then rest assured that it's coming. It's just not Sea Ray.

Michael.

Can you say a semi-vague timeframe? I am waiting for Nokia to release a high end device on AT&T. Hopefully 4" screen. ;)

Sounds good to me, if it's still got amazing hardware then I'll pick it up. Can you give any details on release dates?

When WP7 supports LTE. And keep hoping on a 4" screen, because you might get more than you hope for...

But there will be a mid-end phone before then.

I can't wait for new Wp7 hardware so I can finally upgrade to Wp7!

By 'more than you hope for' I am HOPING you don't mean 4.3" or bigger ;p

The focus is a good enough phone to wait for a high end Nokia, but I have some family that may be interested in the mid-range.
