Where are all the texting symbols?

Just curious if there is a magic button that has more symbols for texting. For example, if you go to the &123 tab,there is no _ or ^^^ or even a dollar sign (there is pounds though) My settings are all on english, either canada or the us.

Also, my boyfriend has a lumia 710 or something (it is a windows phone nevertheless) and when he sends me the smileys (like actual :grin: no ) I see them as and when I send them to him he doesnt get the message if it is just the face or he doesnt see them at all.

Why?

you're almost there =) press "&123" tab, followed by right arrow tab, and there ya go

btw, the dollar sign is there right after you press the &123 tab, you just got to look carefully

Tap the "&123" on the keyboard. Then press and hold the first currency symbol you see.... On my phone its the ?. Once you press and hold that, it brings up a variety of currency symbols
