Where are our WP8 OS updates?

Huh? What we Filipinos call "Summer" is March to May. No fair ;)

Well, back on topic, I'd expect it when OTA Amber arrives.
Personally, I'm content with "just" bug fixes when we have Nokia delivering Symbian's pride and joy to WP (save for EKN2 and Qt).

March to may? All the while I thought summer in the philippines is march to feb

You guys are complaining about an update for Summer & summer is officially 3 days old. Things can be worst you could be on Sprint like myself & still waiting for a Windows Phone 8 DEVICE!!! I take a WP* with GDR1 right now.

summer in Southern California is from January to December :)
That would be horrible if that were true.. summer is "generally" hot and miserable. I grew up in SoCal, I'd say I could peg the seasons personally. The house I grew up in also had no air conditioning, so I knew when it was actually summer, haha. Looking at the weather though, SoCal is still stuck in spring right now :winktongue:

Northern Cali is a way different story... Sacramento even gets temps of up to 110 in the summer these days. Ridiculous

whats the big deal about gdr2 when theres nothing major in the update to begin with? no notification center, no separate volume controls, no custom sound notifications its really a minor update instead of a bigger update that should be addressing bigger issues

and if im not mistaken I thought GDR2 was supposed to be released with the launch of the Nokia Lumia 928 a month ago what happened to that???

they are definitely dropping the ball on delivering updates for the os I cant believe it gdr2 should have came last month, with gdr3 in august and wp 8.1 should be sept-oct

GDR2 is coming with the launch of the 925, never with the 928. It will be pre-installed on that device. It then will come soon after that to other devices.

I think thats a major issue with WP. Microsot puts themselves in a chokehold when they announce time frames for update or app or what ever it is and they cant keep their word. Now that I know my wp7.8 which I forced on there won't be seeing any updates I dont stress about it. I think Microsoft should just say we are working on updates and every now and then say what they are working on and as they get closer to the release start giving dates and more info but only when they are 100% sure it will be released on that day. We all like to get updates on things we buy because it show that the company cares about its costumers but when a company cant keep their promises it makes you wonder if they know what they are doing

But they kept their words on windows 8. Heck, they shipped windows 8 7 months ago without a start button, after some complaint they will add it back on June 26 - see how efficient is that.

Thats exactly what Mr Ballmer is trying to address with the current news of uniting the W8 & WP divisions. This should bring some sync between the updates.

Yes I do agree that the update cycles are a bit slow though more frequent than other OS's..

MS needs to work really hard for initialp eriod to get WP8 to the level of other OS's..atleast the basic upgrades viz. notification centre, app switching, quick access to system control and some other minor tweaks which the WP community have been demanding since long time now...these should be their priority and not gimmicks like, double tap to wake, flip to silence etc

Once on par they can have the liberty of fixed update cycles..

WP is a great platform with tremendous potential...MS should not screw it up from here, especially after getting a reasonable start..

I'm not the slightest bit worried that GDR2 won't arrive on time. It's a tiny update, it MS could've slapped it together in a week.

What worries me more is that it is taking so long to get meaningful updates out the door. Look at how many changes the now excellent xbox music app has had on windows 8, not to mention all the improvements to the other windows 8 apps. We haven't seen a single update to the outdated and in some cases terrible (xbox music and complete lack of xbox video) WP8 apps. And we haven't seen the basic commonly requested features like independent volume controls, etc in 8 months since WP8's release. What's more there's nothing useful (apart from some basic hardware support) on the horizon til 8.1, which is set for a full 14+ months after WP8's release. It's like they have only a handful of people working on the WP team.

hear hear, right on. Im going android next, ive had enough of this crap

There are rfeports that the reorganization of MS on JUly 1, 2013 will move Windows 8 phone into Windows * teams and there may then be quicker intergation of Windows 8.1 and WP8 os'es.

MS has to understand that the consumer's demands are insatiable..if they release 8.1 earlier the general acceptance of WP should increase..this means more interest from app developers..
Once there is a constant influx of apps, MS would have to face less heat and hatred from consumers..

I am sure they r working on it but unfortunately at a disastrous pace..i hope this slowness don't cost them many potential WP buyers n existing customers..

Learn about software dev cycles and internal/external updates. Then come back and post. Even a minor update can take some time to prep, and big rollouts can take months to test properly. Updates will come when they are ready.

This is why Ballmer is doing that reorg. Gotta clean up some things before you can make progress. Embedded bureaucracies isn't just a government thing.

Am somehow managing to keep pace with latest WP news from my busy schedule..dont tell me I have to now learn dev cycle and update process..why should I, my concern is only getting updates for my device so that it gives me a top notch performance..rest everything should be the company's headache..

I never knew that one has to learn about app development process and then participate in these blogs..I felt it is for normal people who have tech interest..
