where does deleted email go?

I accidentally deleted an email through my phone. When I logged on through my desktop I couldn't see the email in the trash, but when I tried searching for it I did found it. So where does the email go once I delete it through my phone?

On Exchange and Live/Hotmail accounts it goes in the deleted folder. On Live/Hotmail accounts it may take a few minutes for the deletion to get pushed back to the server.

I can go to folders in the e-mail client on the phone and see it there almost right away if I recall.

I use gmail, its very strange. if i search for it in the trash folder, while on my desktop, it doesn't see it, but if search for it from my inbox it does see find it, and then i have an option to put it back in the inbox (maybe deleting it through my phone puts it in the archive? its not in the inbox or trash. but still cant figure out where it is.

Pretty sure in Gmail it goes into the "allmail" area. Gmail is all about archiving.

You can change it so that it'll delete rather than archive now.

I know it mentions iOS but it works for Windows Phones too. Basically you have go to the mobile Google Sync website and log in and there's a setting to change.
