Because Moto G has to sacrifice a lot to achieve such a low price, there are massive differences between a high end and low end device, Moto G is not relevant here.

I don't think it sacrifices very much (I've owned a Moto G since the start of the year). I'm not claiming that it's as good as an HTC One M8, but it comes close and leaves you with a lot of spare money to spend on something more interesting. Everyone who buys a smart has to ask themselves if they are *really* prepared to spend *so much* more to get a slightly better phone.

BTW, I expect this trend to continue in the coming years, with the gap between a decent cheap smart phone and a high end phone costing several times the price to get ever smaller. In the long run, the high end phones will be a specialist thing for a small minority who really want them and are prepared to sacrifice other things - probably <10% of the market in total. The same has happened with many many other electronic devices.
