Who is getting the new Surface 3?

Thanks for those links. However, they are NOT high quality keyboard covers. They are the Surface version of the cheaply-made ubiquitous covers w/attached keyboards that are available for every other tablet. Although in the one sentence I said "there are no low cost options" the context was "no low cost high quality options". I apologize for the confusion.

Those covers w/keyboards are NOT the same as the Logitech Ultrathin keyboard cover for the iPad, nor the Belkin that you linked to.

As for the generic BT keyboards not counting, the whole purpose of the TypeCover for the Surface, and actual keyboard covers for the iPad is to provide an all-in-one on-the-go solution. Toting a detached BT keyboard is NOT the same.

there are no low cost high quality accessories (at least in our reality high quality don't meet low cost that often ) , the logitic Ultrathin cost 89$ (and it's still not the same level as the Typecover ,very thick and heavy , require bluetooth and need to be charged )

Well I'll probably get it only on two conditions:

1. Student pricing (10% off of 639$ is a lot)
2. If the new Lumia flagship doesn't have the 1700/2100 Mhz HSPA frequencies for my carrier. Because I'm planning on buying it unlocked. I usually never stay with one carrier for long.

With all due respect: the peoples who own the aforementioned keyboards seem to greatly disagree with your assertion. I didn't just cite low-cost alternatives, I noted low cost alternatives that have emerged from the vicious Amazon critics to have a great score. They won't have the subsidy of a known logo to please the brand snob, but many of the reviews indicate expressed choices that some prefer over the higher-cost *official* Type Cover I have on the Surface Pro 3 keyboard I'm typing this on.

And if we were to claim "a detached BT keyboard" is no good on Surface, the same statement would have to be applied to iPad keyboards. The simple matter is that whether the feature "counts" or not isn't dictated by any one person's subjectivity but rather an objective result. While you (and I for that matter) may not be fond of having a wirelessly connected keyboard that has to have a separately managed charge - we're talking about something that's bigger than us. People buy these alternatives, get their version of KBM input at a lower cost and are mostly satisfied with them - therefore there's no way to logically back that a BT keyboard on a Surface "doesn't count". It does count, and the many people buying - using these only reinforces that.

I just returned my HP Stream 7 today to get this next month. The HP screen was to small but I figured for $79....... Now I have a giftcard(I was past the normal 30 return period) to apply towards this. Even if I don't get this, then I will probably get a new WP phone(640 when it comes out) or another inexpensive tablet. I hope that there will be some special deals when this comes out. Maybe toss the pen in for free or something like that, Looking forward to it.

Have been using a S3 at the local MS store. The size is prefect IMO, love the 3:2 aspect ratio, and looking forward to pen input. So, preordered a S3 4g, 128g today to replace my S2.

I really want it. I'll probably trade my 2 in for it, hopefully they'll run a bit of a deal. I don't mind the price, for a 10-inch Atom tablet with a digitizer, the cost isn't bad. I plan on using the type cover from the Surface and buying the pen - it is exactly what I've been looking for, but I love my Surface 2 too much to settle for an 8-inch.

I'm not.

I have a ASUS Flip 15 I got for $299 and an HP Stream 7 I got for $75. Also have an HP 700-149 desktop. I gave away my Galaxy Tab 10.1.

And I have a Lumia 930.

So - no need, unless it radically dips in prices. I just don't need it.

I would definitely buy one if MS officially released the Surface in my country. I don't like the idea of having to go to those vendors who sell hand-carried goods to get one with 200 bucks increased in price.

I have the 128GB model on order. I got the student discount and saved $59.90. I'm now selling my Core i5 128GB SP3.

I'm still rocking an original RT. What I like? Weight, battery life. What I hate? Too slow and 16:9. The SP3 took care of those last two and threw in a pen but messed up on the weight / battery life. Despite that I was very intrigued by SP3 and bought my wife an i3 for Xmas. My thought process was that if she hated it, I'd take it. If she loved it I would get a free test drive.

That didn't work - she loves it and I think it is too heavy for what I want. I resigned myself to waiting for the SP4 when MSFT surprised me with the S3 - weight, battery life? Check. Speed, 3:2 orientation? Check. Seriously, I would have shelled out for an SP4 if it solved the weight / battery issue, but now the S3 solves it for less than I was ready to pay (in theory).

One annoying problem - the S3 with 4MB is the same price as the SP3 i3 (incl. Keyboard and pen) in Canada. Despite this, I just placed my order on Best Buy - I would trade off power for weight / battery life any day, and my wife never uses her SP3 pen so I am going to steal it. I'm still pissed that the keyboard is so expensive - $79 a no brainer, $99 is probably the right price, but the C$159.99 is seriously too high. I am going to try my RT Type Cover 2 for a while until it pisses me off and then I will probably grumble and suck it up for the keyboard...

May 5th!!!!!!

My fiance is looking to get something a bit more portable than her Lenovo Yoga 2. She hasn't pushed the Core i5 in it, never fully uses its 4GB of RAM, and has filled about 20GB of the 128GB SSD in her Yoga 2. She initially purchased it because the display was bigger than her 11" MacBook Air but realized that it was too heavy and big to be used as a tablet (like how she is using her Dell Venue Pro 8) and the battery life is pretty bad for a notebook (4-6 hours).

So she will definitely be getting a Surface 3, particularly the 128GB version just so she has some head room. I currently have a Surface Pro 2 with a Power Cover but an contemplating buying a Surface 3. My Surface 2's battery life hover around 6-9 hours and I can get 9-12 hours with my Power Cover. The only thing is that the whole setup is about as thick as my 15" MacBook Pro was, the Power Cover doesn't have backlight keys, and I very rarely ever do anything serious other than MATLAB but the 8-year-old desktop I have at work (with 4GB of RAM and a dual-core Pentium E2180 2GHz CPU) is more than fast enough for what I do. Actually the CPU Mark scores for the Atom in the Surface 3 are almost twice as high as the Pentium CPU in my work desktop for single-threaded work and triple for multi-threaded work. So I think I'll be fine.

The Student discount is now available for it (well at least on Microsoft Store Canada's page) for those who are interested in pre-ordering with the student discount.

Me definitely, just waiting until July/August to buy one. Hopefully by the they would have the LTE model unlocked, so I would be prepared to move in to university with a laptop.

Count me in. Pre-ordered the 4GB/128GB version from Microsoft. I plan on getting my keyboard and pen from Best Buy seeing that I have a couple coupons. Come on May 5th!

Pre-ordered for May 5th. 4GB/128GB. Can't wait to run PC apps on my travel device (currently limping with an original RT).

I'm waiting to see what will come out of BUILD about the SP4 before i make my decision. I'm assuming we wont hear anything since the S3 is launching so close they wont want to affect thoes sales. I'm really torn here between just going with this or waiting it out for the SP4.
