Why can't i stay logged in and where are my contacts in Windows Phone 10 ?

just upgraded my phone (Lumia 640 xl) to windows 10 but lost all my contacts.
When i clicked on the "People" and went to the settings there was an option of "Add an account" but as soon as everything is done and is said 'account successfully added' when i go back to the setting page it doesn't shows my account and still says "Add an account".

can you restart the phone and try again?

Done that. Still no difference.

Try a Factory Reset.

Settings > System > About > Reset your phone

You should see the spinning gears and your phone will reflash the last OS version held in recovery. This si probably your best shot at resolving the issue.
