Why did Cortana forced me to change my MS credentials from a password to a PIN?

I turned on Cortana and was forced to use my MS credentials, then it forced me to change from password to PIN for my MS credentials. It changed my win 10 account to use MS credentials. Now I can't log into my Hotmail account, it won't accept my PIN or my old password. How do i get out of this mess?!!!!
