Why didn't Microsoft include battery percentage?

So, by default, Battery Saver is on when your phone hits 20%. If it's not on, it was your choice to disable it. And if you were truly curious about the percentage, and had disabled Battery Saver, but wanted to watch some videos on the ride home, you could go into settings to see what the tiny sliver of battery represented. You don't need a separate app to check battery percentage, it's available in the Settings menu.

Though, I wouldn't mind the option being available to show icon only/percentage only/icon + percentage.

I'd definitely prefer it if the status bar showed battery life as a percentage rather than some ambiguous power bar.

Sorry Dave, but as an explanation, you're stretching it. Most phones have a battery % as a standard feature, there is no reason why MS excluded it. And regarding battery life, there are numerous complaints about poor battery performance. NL920 which started the whole thing, had horrendous battery life, mine still has flash drains from time to time.

Because, I think, everything in the status bar is supposed to be a second thought. No need to check it. Its like the no stress bar on Windows Phone. All Windows Phone devices as a general rule get decent battery life. Why do you need percentage on a device that never runs out of power in a normal days use.

Also the refresh rate is not exact even on battery apps. If you check your battery every 5 minutes at some point you will get a bad reading.

stock android does have it. you can turn it on or off.

It's in stock Android's code, but not available to enable in Settings. You need to use adb (there's also an app which basically uses adb) to enable it. But a lot of the manufacturers' launchers have it.

Maybe I am strange, but I can look at the status bar and tell how much battery I have left. The icon is dead simple and clear, so the existence of a percentage would have little value.

nothing strange, current set-up satisfies your needs, but battery % is one of the top requested features, so a lot of people still would like to have it. It seems like a pretty basic feature to cause such a huge debate over here.

Wow what an comment. Really, are you serious or was this some sort of a joke I didnt understand?

I don?t need the %, the graphic representation is enough. I always disable the % in every device I own, if possible.

It is such a crazy argument to say that "you dont need to know the actual % of your battery". Every person is different and many, MANY people want this feature. It is so simple to add or to at least offer the API so that 3rd party battery apps work correctly. When you are fighting tooth and nail for every user why you would offer an excuse not to buy WP is just beyond me. And the blind defense of this omission is just perplexing. It so reminds me of the days when Blackberry was loosing users every five minutes to the Iphone and those on crackberry would be like, "who needs apps?".
