Why does my HP computer freeze when I go into settings add a person within "family etc"

[Windows Central Question]

I get as far as clicking on the "add" button on either "family & friends" or "add someone else." At that point a blank grey screen comes up and from then on the computer freezes, including the clock. I can only get out of this by switching off manually with the desktop start/stop button.
