Why does my unlocked ATT Lumia 830 still show ATT as the carrier

I have an activated T-Mobile SIM in it and it works but Settings/About still shows ATT as the carrier. Does this mean I'm still locked to ATT for updates? Model # is RM-983_1001 purchased from Microsoft store with no contract.

I believe the RM-983 is the AT&T variant. If so, I would think updates can only pass thru AT&T.

What is shown for Carrier is independent of SIM lock. It is an AT&T branded device so the carrier shows as ATT, regardless of what company's SIM you actually have inserted. And it will always be dependent on AT&T for firmware updates.

If you never intended using it on AT&T, probably would have been better to get the RM-985 factory unlocked and unbranded version.
