Why doesn't Cortana speak?

So I've been hearing some great things about Cortana, but after waiting months to get Cyan on my 920, I find that she doesn't talk like she does in the commercials or on other phones. Am I missing something?

Cortana does speak, if you speak to it. If you type your query into Cortana, it will respond with text.
