Why doesn't my Windows phone identify a custom ringtone if copied through a file manager?

Windows does not identify custom ringtone if copied through a file manager

I use Metro File Manager. When I copy a file to my phone's Ringtones folder, Windows does not list it under custom ringtones.

However, if I copy the same file to my phone by connecting it to my PC via USB, it gets detected.

Is this a known behavior?
