Why don't sound notifications occur for email subfolders in WP8.1?

In WP8 I would simply set global email notifications for something like "Incoming email" with a sound and that worked fine for the main folder (Inbox) and any subfolders I had set for sync and pinned to the start screen.

With WP8.1 you now set sound notifications on an account by account basis and even though my subfolders are pinned to the start I only get the sound notification for the main Inbox folder and not the subfolder.

Any ideas why or is there some hidden setting somewhere to enable notifications for subfolders?

I would also like to see an answer to this. I have many folders setup under my Exchange inbox and only get the notification sound for anything going into the main inbox. I have missed some important emails due to this.
