Why is formatting my sd card taking so long?

sd card issue

i had been using lumia 730 for several months... now recently i tried formatting my sd card (class 4) 4gb and you know what , the formatting is taking forever(still not formatted though)...after several hours,I switched off my device ,removed the sd card and tried with other devices and still the same....
PS: it was working fine before i tried formatting...
can u guys help resolve this????

Put SD in card reader, plug it into PC and format using NTFS with Default size. Try in your phone. If phone storage sense requests to format, do it. If issues still persist plug SD card into PC again and format it first to NTFS and after that format it again into FAT32 with default size.

I'd download SD formatter it's always worked for me with corrupt memory cards.

still no. the sd formatter says the card is write protected... but i did not protect it in any ways...
and i also tried formatting via cmd(diskpart->list device-> clean) and all i get is an IO device error...

This is a uSD card we are talking about correct?

Sounds like it may have hit it's end of life read/writes.
Some early SD cards failed way before their normal lifecycle.

Generally these issues get resolved when you restart the process, i.e. after switching off and ejecting out the SD card and inserting it again. On other occasions formatting the card in right file format is the concern( NTFS, exFat or FAT32).
However, if all these methods fail, then better you change your SD card.
