Why is surface book 2 is costly?

I know that Microsoft is providing good support to its products.but Microsoft should not put heavy price tag on surface book2 people love Microsoft innovation but consumer always thinks about more features less cost.thats how they lost windows phone

But to your question ... Premium materials and design costs lots of money. If you make it too cheap then people also won't think it's very good

It's a device that...

• is mechanically more complex than most other laptops, so that adds cost and a lot of R&D costs.
• is made of high-quality/premium materials.
• Very compact, and with more horsepower (at least graphics-wise) than you typically see in the convertible laptop segment. Cramming performance into a smaller package isn't usually easy or cheap, which is typically why desktops give you more bang-for-buck.
• has a lot of features, including a pen digitizer (and Surface Dial support), a quality display, etc - it generally ticks all the boxes.

And ultimately it's meant to just be a luxury computer without regard for cost.

Also, it's priced specifically to compete with the MacBook Pro. It's no coincidence that it's within a couple hundred dollars spec-for-spec.

Go and have a look at the laptops made by Asus and HP, with a 1060 card, then come back here. You'll soon realise that they're not THAT expensive for what they do and also for the quality.

I think the price is right for what you get. If you're willing to tolerate much more weight, then you can get similar specs cheaper. But this is what I would expect to pay for these specs in a 3-lb device. Which is why I pre-ordered one. Thursday can't come fast enough!

Things that don't easily all come together in the same machine

• Quad core
• Extremely long battery life 10+ hours
• GTX 1050/1060 on top of that
• Higher build quality (even with the faults) than other vendors who charge similar amounts
• Touch screen and pen
• 2 year warranty where you walk in, get a new device and walk out
  • This doesn't always happen but most vendors you are weeks without a machine while they start diagnosing it. On site service still requires you wait for the repair and often several trips are required
• Windows 10 pro built in - not an upgrade cost
• Extreme quality screen, which seems to be a rarity, brighter than nearly everyone else , better accuracy and contrast
• Very good to extremely good audio quality
• Transformable to a screen only based device, while still giving you a 1050/1060 card (only device to do this)
• Very compact power supply - most 1050/1060 devices have very large psu's (this is a compromise, but a good one for a traveler)
• Dolby sound
• Doing all this at 4.2lb or less
• Upgrades to Windows work on these devices - you are not at the mercy of whatever horrid parts got used in another vendor's device that they refuse to support in a year or two
  • With feedback if things break... and yes sometimes upgrades do break but you can't even get problems solved with most vendors after a year runs out
• Magnetic power means you don't break your power port if you or a child trips on the cord
• 3:2 ratio is incredibly helpful for productivity while not dooming you when you want to game once in a while
  • 15" gives you the equivalent height of a 17" machine in a narrow body that fits in a plane seating area
• Face recognition that works and works very fast
• Camera on the back side for Skype meetings or AR uses or simply scanning documents and checks
  • Again, unique in a notebook that also includes a 1050/1060
• A very large body of users who are all using the same device, same hardware as you and with which you can share troubleshooting or resolve issues
• A magnesium body that is significantly more durable and wear worthy than aluminum
• And if you are having a problem you can walk into a store and show someone exactly what is happening
  • I am so very tired of discussing things with Dell by phone, shipping the device to them and having them return it with 'sorry couldn't replicate your issue' despite giving careful instructions on exactly how to replicate that issue

Look no experience is perfect and despite all these features things do go wrong. But if you go research other devices you will find that things go wrong a LOT more for other vendors. No device, not Apple (remember the 'you are holding it wrong' defense?), not Samsung, not Dell not HP is perfect. But these devices contain a set of features and a care in building that isn't being done by most vendors anymore. No one wants to build a premium item. So this is the poster child for that. And each generation the vision improves. And if you like someone else's device or price to feature ratio better, that's not a loss. That's choosing your perfect device. But this device is meant to bring expensive features to one premium device. So yes it is costly, but it delivers some things that no one else does all in one device.

Briefly played around with dell and hp laptops at the MS store yesterday. They don't feel as a premium as SB2. Just a bit tad cheaper feel (less solid, more rough to the touch etc). They are lighter and had nice screens, but even the pen felt cheaper than Surface. You get better value for sure going non Surface. But that's why they charge more. You can't have everything for cheapest possible price.
