Why is the back button on my phone so unresponsive?

Re: Back button unresponsive

It works fine for me, but here's my tip for 100% response: rather than try to "stab" the button in exactly the right place, brush/swipe your thumb/finger over the back/search button icon. Not only is it more effective at getting the right spot (especially if you have long nails), but it cleans the screen!

Re: Back button unresponsive

I've done some further research. I have particularly sweaty hands (don't judge me). I find that when my hands are at their sweatiest, the issue is worse. Dry them off, and things get better. I've got a tempered glass protector coming soon. Will report back.

Re: Back button unresponsive

Finding my back button somewhat unresponsive at times too (have iShieldz screen protector), tried touch sensitivity at normal and high with the latter being better yet it causes other sensitivity issues, swiping down my invoke a left or right response instead or trying to scroll may cause an app/link to initiate. All in all it is not terrible but can be frustrating at times, on my 1020 I prefer the normal mode, the 830 becomes a tad too unresponsive when switched to that setting though, did not use phone much prior to screen protector so can't say if that is causing some issues but thinking not.

Re: Back button unresponsive

Some of these "suggestions" are laughable. "Dry your fingers", 'swipe don't press'? Thanks anyway.

Yes they are, bottom line is one shouldn't have to press, swipe or whatever 5-8 times to get a response. Mine isn't terrible but can be an annoyance at times, out of the three Windows phones I own, Ativ S, 1020, the 830 has been the most temperamental... Maybe it just needs a break-in period LOL.

Re: Back button unresponsive

Well, they sure as hell don't work with gloves.

Found this out the other day. What's the point of high sensitive screen using gloves if you can't even go back in the os with gloves on?

Re: Back button unresponsive

I have been through two phones now and both had the issue with the search (Cortana) button but only with the screen protector on (the Shieldz one I think). I'm wondering if AT&T made some change to the sensitivity to address complaints about accidentally launching Cortana or something like that. I bought mine in Aurora, CO and I don't have sweaty hands as there is 0% humidity here :-). I removed the screen protector and all is good now...except of course my screen is not protected and I'm out $20.

Re: Back button unresponsive

Same problem here, I bought this phone about 1 month ago, Singapore.
Takes lots of tapping for the Back to respond.

Re: Back button unresponsive

I'm on my 4th phone now and it works fine. My 3rd phone was better than the first 2, but it mysteriously crapped out completely. I made a phone call, placed the phone back in my pocket and about 5 minutes later it was DEAD. No combination of button presses or charger connections made a difference, it just died.

Re: Back button unresponsive

My wife's L830 all of a sudden had a non functional search button. It would not work at all. Other buttons worked fine. Rebooting didn't help. But after a soft reset it started working again. Odd.....

My search button stopped working. The back button has a small "sweet spot". The home button works fine. I don't really miss the search button as I have Cortana on my home screen. By the way I tried removing Cortana from the home screen, and then turned Cortana off, and that had no impact on the functionality of the search button.

Also, the three buttons do not light up consistently. Most of the time, they do not light up at all. Does anyone know of a setting I should change so that they do light up when I'm using them? It seems to have something to do with the ambient light - in normal light, they do not glow, in low light, they do glow. I would prefer they light up whenever I'm using them.

Re: Back button unresponsive

all of my on-screen buttons are a little flaky...not quite as responsive as they should be. the back button is a little worse than the other two, but all three work on my phone.

Re: Back button unresponsive

Hi guys! Update: I'm still on my second l830. I purchased a nice leather flip case for my phone that came with a stylus and screen protector. For those of you with the soft type screen protectors (skinomi I know is this type. They are typically the more expensive ones), the phone seems to have an issue with these screen protectors. I removed by nice skinomi screen protector and used the el cheapo s/p (the non stretchy plastic film) that came with my flip case and the capacitive buttons are working SO much better! I'm not a huge fan of these since they don't do a good job of molding to the 2.5d gorilla glass on our phones (this one is cut before the screen curves at the edges, so no air pockets), but it lets me single tap the capacitive buttons without issue. Hope this helps guys.

Re: Back button unresponsive

I had the same problem on two headsets w/o screen protectors.
Oh. Mine does have an issue with the protector. Maybe then its a hardware issue and I just felt that it was due to the screen protector.

I just put a skinomi on my wife's L830 and bang the search button stopped working. the other two buttons work fine. lifted off the part over the search button and it works just fine without the protector. I am contemplating to cut off the screen protector just where the buttons start and add a strip of the thinner, cheaper protectors I got for that area.
