Why is the Nokia Lumia 830 so expensive?

1020 is selling for 28K on flipkart, who cares what the official price is and btw isnt it better that u r getting a phone for 28 k whose "official" price is 42k, between 1020 n 830 at same price I would choose 1020.
and as for 830 I think its sexiest WP till now. but I disagree with its current pricing and may be u can say that I'm angry at stupidity of MS at the pricing.
Indian consumer is really price sensitive, it doesnt mean we are not willing to spend more, but just that we want value for money, 830 isnt. can 730 & 830 generate same frenzy as a motoG or Xiaomi? they should hv adopted such strategy.

Just see the price of 830 after a month on other sites, it'll surely come down to less than ₹25k. Xiaomi has many problems, this has came in TOI so many times, its cheapest, but would you risk it?

Lumia 830 is expensive because MS want to earn money or profit.

I think with L830 they are giving competition to Apple in profit margin.

Apples keeps its iPhone prices 6-7 times of its production price, hence even though with the recent decrease in the iPhone sales, its still making huge profit. No company makes that much profit, no one

MS is trying to show that they can do it by L830

I have Xiaomi Mi3, it has been almost 2months, no issues at all, yes I've read abt redmi 1s issues, cant comment on it, but Mi3 is pretty good.
If 830 misses diwali boom and gets cheaper later, is that a good strategy? thats what we are trying to say isnt it?

No they can't. IPhones prices never decrease, even if they do, it hardly matters. Lumia phones prices do decrease, & it matters a lot

Dude, thats the whole point, if a company cuts price of its phone models 2-3 times a year, it scares of potential buyers. anybody buying 830 is gonna regret it a month later when price cut happens but ppl dont wait that much time so they buy other devices. thats what I'm trying to say, price it right keep the price stable for atleast 6months, instead of pricing it high and dropping it every month or so.

To the OP, why would you compare the 830, a brand new phone, to the Galaxy S III, which is an outdated one? I don't get it... Plus, the 830 is much, much cheaper than its predecessors in the 8xx line than when they were newly released. Even the 810 was $500 full price at launch. I think the 830 is much more reasonably priced, especially considering all the high end features it has!

yes
high end features like "Hey Cortana"

and it's super powerful lastest processor snapdragon 400 out perform all others.
It's a reasonable cost.

HTC Desire 816 cost you around $300 to $350

Do you feel this phone is overpriced ?

I have posted same thing on nokia conversations site, just wanted opinions from other windows phone users.

"Affordable" ? = Nope

"flagship" ? = Nope. Just because it has pure-view camera doesn't make it a flagship device.

Whoever decided cost of this device must be high, anyone please explain the logic in pricing between 730,830 and 930(talking about india). I am only comparing lumia phones unlike some who are comparing it with lagdroids. Do people compare iPhone to lagdroid in-terms of specs?? I guess not.

Differences between 830 and 930

930 has 2Gb ram,32GB space,20MP main camera,5 inch full HD screen with gorilla glass ~441 ppi,2420 mAh battery and 2.2ghz quad core sd 800 processor to top it all off. Difference in Ram 1GB,almost double processing power, more ppi, longer battery life, better and bigger screen and better camera.

Price difference 10000Rs!!(Totally justified) Only advantage 830 has is microSD card slot and glance.

Differences between 730 and 830

Same Ram,same processor, same size. 830 has 10MP pureview camera 730 has 6.7MP and 5MP front camera!! 830's front cam is only 0.9 MP!! 830 has more storage but can be easily ignored since you can always get sd card. Apart from this 730 has more ppi! 830 has little design advantage with metal frame but that's about it. I don't feel that better audio quality and design should cost this much.

Price Difference 13000 Rs!!!
What you guys think?

When you talk about overpriced let's see iPhone 6

930 is flagship. Yes 4 core 2 gb ram 20MP metal frame and don't forget the Microphone

730 are selfie phone while 830 is normal mid end phone.

If you think it's overpriced get 630. Or if you want more ram get older 925

Re: Do you feel this phone is overpriced ?

Lumia 830 has better battery life.
As you can read in many tests already, it is still very fast and does everything perfectly. They compared it and apart from games and few ressource hungry apps you cant feel the difference! So the numbers dont matter, it is very fast! Very good build quality, it is lighter, screen is very good (you cant see pixels, nobody needs high resolution on small screens!), it is not getting hot as the 930, camera is great (930 SUCKS in lowlight!!! its purple and grainy), battery removable, SD card slot up to 128 GB, Glance...plus the other good stuff like Dolby sourround, Rich recording, Dynamic Flash etc....thats flagship!

The price will drop very quick to 300 or something. They have to start higher, thats marketing!

Re: Do you feel this phone is overpriced ?

Yes i think it is. It could be little cheaper.
There are other, overall better and cheaper Android alternatives.

The thing that does irk me about the 830 is their bragging of Pureview camera capabilities matching those of flagships... Since that IS supposed to be what redeems the 830 compared to devices with (almost) the same underlying hardware, such as the Moto G Second Gen, etc.

Apparently the 830 has a 1/3.4" sensor. Compared to the old 920/925, which had a larger 1/3" sensor AND less MP, you have to question how good it would really be in comparison. Compare that to the 930 which has the largest 1/2.5" sensor, which is pretty good for a cameraphone (though it does have higher MP so I suppose it cancels out). You have to wonder how much magic MS did really pull off with the software since the hardware is sub-par. The sample shots I've seen in other threads certainly aren't earthshattering by any means...

I believe the pixel size is about the same on the 930 and 830. But since the 830 requires more enlargement, the 930 should definitely end up with better final image quality, even though it may look the same at 100% crop.

I don't think people are obsessing over the specs, they are just comparing the specs to other phones with similar specs and asking about the price difference. I'm keeping my 920 for a while longer, but what you call obsessing just seems like comparing products before buying...

People are jumping to conclusions. If S400 gives a great experience in the OS the phone ships with, any other means of comparison is completely invalid and arbitrary. XYZ Android phone with S400 for whatever money has no bearing on cross shopping.
Trying to get the most GHz, cores, memory, and general specs for the least amount of money is how you bought a computer in 1992. This is not 1992, and these are smartphones, not computers. I don't see smart shoppers, I see people getting all wound up over nothing.

Well you can have your opinion, right or wrong and other people are free to have there's.

I honestly don't think it's expensive :/ I bought mine new for 380$ and so far it's better than my 810 which I think was a good phone. So while people complain it's expensive try it at your local carrier ( its it's there ) and decide for yourself . There no sense in nocking down a product just because the Moto G is cheaper .
Now that I think about it .., both are two different phones targeted at different people. In the end I'm happy with my 830 and I think other people who have it will tell you the same thing .

Wow...$380 does seem like a good price. I just saw the 830 for $478(converted from baht) at a Nokia store in Thailand.

A rational discussion will reveal the 830 has no performance deficiencies and is actually quite snappy. But I see some posts like "S400 = fail" and that's just so uninformed.
