Why Isn't Windows Phone Doing Better?

Too many low tier phones. I shouldn't have to get a phablet to get a flagship phone. There should be more quad core phones offered from Nokia to really compete with the flagship phones from other brands. Streamlining also. The numbering of Nokia Lumia phones is confusing. They need to really streamline the names of the phones to get an easy name and numbering system down the average person can keep up with easily.

Also ads that show what the products can do over the competition. All the ads I've ever seen are really bad. They need to take cue from Samsung when it comes to marketing. They really sold their phones ability to do things iPhones don't to people. Microsoft needs to advertise that they have a better product not just that they have a product.

Agreed, but at this point in the game, Microsoft should be doing whatever it takes to get one high end handset in each of the big 4 US carriers. If I were to switch operating systems, I would have no problem getting the exact high end phone that I want from my carrier. But as it is, with the operating system that I really love, I'm on the outside looking in. I'm not sure where to direct my frustration -- the carriers or the OEMs, but the current model seems to be an impediment to their success.

This!

I like the nokia ads. Where everything is black and white except for the lumia device owners. That kind of show-don't-tell actually works I think. sale the sizzle and not the steak. Be unique. be different. that kinda thing. makes it seem like it is something special that the others don't have without actually saying that.

I went from a BlackBerry to WP7 to WP8 to BB10 back to WP8 and finally gave in and got an iPhone.
For me, it was about the apps. Simply apps that I wanted/needed. WP was ALMOST there, but not quite. The Pebble watch was the deal breaker for me.

Microsoft hasn't made a compelling reason for the average user to switch from the duopoly. I want competition (which is why I carry a Lumia 925 and an iPhone 5s). BlackBerry is in a somewhat similar (but poorer) boat - limited apps (even with their vaunted Android apps) and no compelling reason to change.

I look forward to switching back to a Windows Phone. But today is not that day. :(

Exactly. The only reason why I haven't switched is cause i'm so used to wp and would miss the UI as the time goes by.
Seriously, there is little reason why someone using a high end Android phone or an iPhone would consider a WP(except for the UI refresh)
-Lesser app support
-Wait, wait and wait some more!
The waiting is the most annoying part of wp. If wp8.1 was released last year, wp would have been in a better position than it is right now. I mean, 8.1 isn't officially out still! And then, after waiting 2 years, there is still a feature gap. No support for stylus(don't really care about this), no 3d touch(don't really care about this either), no dual windows multitasking(ironic since this is wp), no quick app launcher(this is turning out to be a deal breaker for me but I'm still hanging on to wp. Why? I don't know)...we basically waited 2 years for something better than wp8 but still 2+ years behind android.
I wish the WP team was half as committed as the Xbox team.

those kind of low tier phones were selling the best the last time I checked. You need those because it gets wp8 into more people hands.. there for a greater demand for apps... therefore more developers developing = all the app hungry folks will come. The os is as good as it's market in spite of all the little neat things. zombies want apps.

the most compelling reason to buy a phone is price for MOST people because most people are not rich. Microsoft should be damn near giving these phones away. It will pay off in the long run when people are all trying to get one because everyone already has one. Kinda like iPhone... the kids love it and they all have it so my nieces and nephews want it as well. I say slash prices on all things that start with the word "Windows" and have a number "8" in it.
