I have been an ardent admirer of wpcentral for quite a long time as it always keeps us updated with news of new apps, updates etc. But lately wpcentral has been catering too much news related to Windows.I humbly request you to take note of this preference shift. If wpcentral means Windows phone central, why should there be so much news related to Windows 8.1 ? How do Windows phone users benefit from the news like who becomes the new CEO of Microsoft etc? How should an average user be benefited by Kantar reports, market growth news etc? Please take note that wpcentral news are nowadays dominated by news of release of new phones, surface pro,Xbox etc. To that, please compare the ratio of existing windows phone users and prospective windows phone users. Is the number of prospective users so high that wpcentral should propagandize on behalf of Microsoft? As for myself,I never looked into wpcentral before I started using a Windows Phone. It's my sincere belief that most visitors of wpcentral (most of whom visit for news of apps, app updates and news of os updates) would be benefitted more,if this site doesn't flood us with non-wp news.

The way I see it is since the Windows Phone and the Windows PC/tablet ecosystems are slowly merging into one, so to will WPCentral's reporting. Just my thoughts on the matter.

That's the definitely the right long term outlook. What we know as Windows Phone and Windows is going to blur in the next year. I've dropped some not so subtle hints at this, and so hasn't Microsoft. In that sense, we're being proactive as that will happen, make no mistake.

But there are two other reasons as well:

(1) There are no other worthy/good sites that do what we do for Windows Phone but for Windows/Surface news. We've noticed that gap. Our audience has noticed that gap. We want to fill it, as it's important to the ecosystem and the longevity of the platform.

(2) Non-WP Microsoft news does very well on our site. Tying into the above, our audience likes the Surface/Xbox/Windows news. It's evident in our traffic, our tips and user comments on those stories. If those articles were uninteresting to our core audience, we'd stop doing them, but that's definitely not the case. Fact is, if you own a Windows Phone, you're very likely to either own or be interested in Xbox, PC and Surface news as well.

In terms of our name, I've said it before and will say it again that a site rebrand and redesign is in the works. We won't be WPCentral for ever, just like 'Windows Phone' itself may cease to be its own thing as it merges/takes over RT and tablets. If people aren't interested in those stories, and I know there is a small handful, they are more than free to skim over the articles and not click the links. We'll probably have some filter system in place to help sort topics, kind of like what we do know but wider.

But we will continue down this path because we're good at it and frankly, no one else is doing that job that needs to be done. Even I find it hard to learn about new Windows 8 apps/games that are worth my time. I want to change that and everyone is more than welcome to come along for the ride!
