Why won't my Surface Book disconnect the keyboard?

Surface Book won't disconnect the keyboard

This is the first time my Surface Book won't disconnect the keyboard. I have the monitor on so it is backwards, and the keyboard is on the other side. The disconnect icon is greyed out and says it is detached...and when I press the button on the keyboard, it blinks green for a few seconds. I get no messages. Now I can't put away my laptop safely
