Will Windows Phone continue to avoid to make a File Manager?

if we download using UC we can only use it in UC plus we can't send that file
You haven't really tried to download it using UC browser, have you? Because if you have, you will know that you can play it in music & videos hub.

Not to mention, terribly worded. From what I've heard, Xbox Music has over 30 million songs. I haven't found a single published song or album that isn't available.

Thankyou, at least you know the figures for Xbox. Then there's Nokia Music to add to that.

Local music and some classical *in my region some of them only available in physical copy.

Is this guy for real?

Some how I don't believe you, unless you live in Tibet or something?

It started about a File Manager and now it's Music.

Furthermore, like I've said before I'm not up on everything on WP. But if it's true what the OP said a File Manager not being on WP because of security, then I don't want it, no matter what others want.

Whether you need a file manager or not depends on how you use a smartphone.. to just say that "you don't need it" is na?ve. Some do, some don't. If you don't want it, then don't use it. Simple.

I keep my documents (pdf, pptx, docx, jpg, etc..) organised in folders together. I have done this in Windows Mobile 2003 --> 6.5, Symbian S60 and Android.

This feature isn't a security risk if you are just able to access the My Documents folder (which is all I need) and stop programs from being executed in this folder.

Apple's walled garden approach isn't a sustainable way forward for computing, and I'm sure MS knows that - as they have enabled features (e.g. Bluetooth File Transfer) that Apple have not.

MS has made one of the best file managers, why it isn't in WP is beyond me.

One problem in this forum is that some people here believes that what microsoft says is the truth above all. I don't need a filemanager to get others files, I just need to manage files on my device like on my PC, since I began to use a SmartPhone it turned a completion of my PC but WP is nearly useless in this area, even when I connect to a pc with Win8 and SDcard I can't send files to it(lumia620 bug only?). We that are asking for a FileManager need it and a Shared Storage will not be a problem(like skydrive but local and free). Some peope here would begin to respect others opinion or at shut if have nothing good to say.

You guys do not need to be paranoid about Android and iOS.
I am yet to see anybody complaining that ?Reject incoming calls with SMS? in Portico or ?Storage Check? in 1308 should have not been implemented, just because they were already available in iOS and Android. How did these features ruin your WP8 experience?

Please, don?t oppose improvements for childish reasons.

So we need to spend our time to make Windows Phone be like android?
That makes sense. Lose the tiles guys! Lets get rows and columns of icons!
We are very much int he race. Thank you very much.

Oh so lets copy everything from android and iOS, the result - Teribble fragmented OS with boring icons, outdated design and freedom*.

I am from a third world country and we don't have unlimited and fast internet connection here. Cloud storage can't work here for lots of reasons and one of them is this, the data plan for smart phones cost about $10 and that is only 200mb of data. I have other things i want to do with internet, can't use the whole 200mb uploading and downloading files from skydrive cos i want to attach a document to a mail. Also to access your files, the internet connection might be terrible at times, opening skydrive can be a real pain in the a** . For us here, we need a file manager.

i'm usually download content from other source like file hosting website but in WP no we can't, if i download a mp3 file from my "own" website i only able to play it i can't save it. Now let see on Android you need to have root access but on WP root is not possible so why not let's app has control over multimedia file and leave the system alone?

That's why I mentioned Windows 8 in previous posts. Metro apps in Windows 8 can access user's library folders (with a special permission declaration) so that you can store your mp3 files or mp4 video files in your libraries to share with other apps. Not to mention the standard search and share features offered in Windows 8. Given WP8 actually uses the same OS kernel, it is not hard for Microsoft to enable it in future version of WP8 and it is probably already in the process.

But that still doesn't mean you need to have a file explorer. File explorer is a very rudimentary way to handle files on a small screen device like a phone. Give apps library access so that you can store your music, video and documents there. It will solve a lot of problems that hinders WP7/8 today. Access to libraries does not necessary mean less secure. And those apps will require extra permissions.

I want a File Manager on a secure Windows Phone. I have used File Mangers on every PC computer and Windows Mobile device I've owned. I don't need access to the OS or App program files. I think there should be a File Explorer to give me easy access to my files.
Agreed. I used the file manager on my Android phone quite a bit. I'm ok with restricted access to system files, just let me browse my stuff.

I don't see why the file manager is needed even in this case. You can use your PC to sync/copy the files over to the phone since you are not downloading it.

Okay, I'm going to interject my usual comment on this subject. This is what is being said:

"Accessing an arbitrary WP8 file (stored locally on a WP8 device) possibly to attach it to an e-mail, is one of many common examples of a file access requirement for which WP8 currently lacks a solution."

That is simply the truth. Someone might say that they themselves don't require such functionality, but nobody can make that claim for everyone else in the world! This thread proves such a need exists! Not for everybody, but for some.

On the other hand, those saying they require a "file manager" are confusing a solution with a requirement. Nobody requires a "file manager". What people do require is a way of solving the aforementioned issue (and many others that can be traced back to similar root causes). The fact that so many people commonly confuse requirements with solutions is why threads like this are a dime a dozen and never reach any worthwhile conclusion. Neither here at WPC nor anywhere else.

Why am I so theoretical? My point is this: WP8 will never get a "file manager"! However, that doesn't mean the related problems can't be solved.

WP8's security model simply won't support a "file manager", at least not in the traditional sense (as offered on Windows and Android). Changing that would imply throwing out WP8's entire security model, almost making WP a different OS in the process. MS will not do that, nor should they.

Elsewhere, I've described one possible solution that solves these issues without the use of a "file manager". However, I do not know how or even if MS intends to address these issues. What I do know is that WP8 won't be getting a file manager. Ever.

Honestly, it's annoyances like this that make me really wish someone would just make a Windows RT phone, something like the Galaxy Note at 5-6". Plus it'd be amazing for me with OneNote and the Wacom pen but that's besides the point.

My phone is the last thing I want them hackers to access so anything for the sake of security.
Security > Features.

this is why I'm on WP8 because Android is a hack machine and iOS can be jail break for piracy.

man! we just want to manage our stuffs we don't want system-level file manager

but people tent to computer-free... that's what OTA update for

i don't know you guys live in some fancy country. not all of us come from US man! and why i talk about music? DUH? i want to download music from other source(my country has it own online store to sell music) ! that's why! just don't make me look like a troll ok?

i don't really like the idea "don't need it, don't make it"

It would be nice if we did have one. I understand it is not for everyone. I wish for the advanced users or users who need it, it was available.

OP, no need to defend yourself. There is a reason you want it. I believe the reason there is no file system is more than security. I think it is that they want windows phone to be simple and easy to use while providing a full mobile experience.

Microsoft is kinds in a tough position. They used to market a mobile OS called windows mobile that had a file system along with a whole lot more. People thought it was either too cumbersome or did not need the features. Now Microsoft has studied the market l, industry, and people and believe that this is a better approach.

Android devices currently allow you to do what you desire. Android, though the number one os, is divided with people who either wants and knows the services and the others who could care less and think it is a little cumbersome to manage files.

Maybe we will get a file manager, bur I think it will be a while. Shoot, I am just happy we can transfer files over USB like the old days... A solutuon will come in time.
