Windows Central Question

WIN10 update from WIN8.1 converted all my .jpg format photos to .mix format items, which I can NOT open or access. My "new" WIN10 operating system will not even recognize the .mix format for conversion. I cannot restore to WIN8.1 as I am pretty sure the .mix files will not restore back to the original .jpg. Photos are part of family genealogy collection.

WIN10 has also corrupted a number of my resident applications, in that they run much slower, and it keeps wanting me to use 1-DRIVE and I-CLOUD for storage which I do NOT, repeat do NOT, want to do. Need help ASAP!

On the outside of an affected folder... (I.E.: Pictures)
Hold down the Shift key and Right Click on the folder > select "Open command window here" > type in the following, then hit enter and let it complete the task before closing the Command Window.
Code:
ren *.mix *.jpg

Do this at every affected folder. You need to associate the Command Directory with the file location so you have to call up a new window for each folder.

FWIW, I have no idea why your files were converted that way. Something in the metadata possibly. .mix is a format used by old software such as Picture It! and Digital Image Editor. Picture It! was on Windows 98 and below. Digital Image Editor was discontinued in 2007.
