1. OS Upgrades are not at a cost for Windows 10 systems.
2. Windows PC's are no less secure than any Macintosh out there.
3. OS is very stable and reliable.
4. You do have to make sure you don't just download anything out there, but that goes for a Mac too, but Mac's have in-built protections to ensure you don't download and launch something outside of the Mac Store (you have to Control Click to open the package and verify it's safe to run).
5. Mid-range laptops are actually at 1080-1200p now. 768 screens are only on lowest end.
Any computer is prone to hacking, updates help combat that. So keep your pc up to date and you'll have no problems. Your cons are probably happening to .001% of PC owners.

This could have been written 5-6 years ago and maybe you'd have a point, but you need to get a PC to understand the updates.

Yes, because MS is not interested in profits and is only out to help humanity. Yes, I was purposely being sarcastic.
@TgeekB, if you open your eyes and make a quick research about projects for each of these companies and their history, you will be able to easily spot the difference. I know not everybody has the ability to make use of their brain, but at least try it.

As a long time Windows fan, I hate to admit it, but I would say Mac. I've had nothing but problems with Windows 10 despite numerous wipes and clean installs on my SP3. I just can't recommend it for an average user. Microsoft is spending too much time trying to add cool features and not enough time getting the basics working properly. Not to mention they change things so frequently that the average person gets annoyed because what worked one way last month no longer does because, change.

Perhaps you'd like to enlighten us all.
Not your perception, but some real peer reviewed research which I do on a daily basis.

Issue is MacOS has a limited number of options and Windows is available on many options. There are more models of Chrome books than Apple pc's. Someone I believe mention Linux which is only available on workstation configurations from the OEM's. Typically most Linux users buy a Windows machine and download and replace Windows with their flavor of Linux.

I agree with real0395...What is she used to? If she's used to Windows, even though she maybe open to both, Windows will be what she's most comfortable with. Therefore, more partial to. The 2 OS's are similar, but different. Someone mentioned no right click & I personally used to right clicking. But...MAC can do the same with a 2 finger tap. I believe you can also configure a mouse that has a right click feature, so I don't think that will make that much of a difference. A track pad for the MAC is more powerful than any I've found on a Windows computer. Those are just a couple of things that are different.

The point about OS support is somewhat not true. Both will support hardware sets up to a certain time frame. Windows 10 isn't supported on all previous hardware sets. One is & has been a free update to the next version for years which is MAC. Windows on the other hand has thru the years mostly required a charge for an update. Although that's different at this time, either company may change it's philosophy at anytime.

If you come from MAC to Windows or Windows to MAC there will be a learning curve. Someone may come from a MAC & say, why can't I perform this double-tap function on my new Windows machine that I could do on my MAC...Then you advise them, oh, just right-click.

I have found that MS appears to be slowly moving towards a full on subscription service which may entail a yearly fee, like Office 365 has done.

Windows:

PROS:
-Countless Apps available
-Most software is free out there (That doesn't mean most of them are good )
-Most hardware support available
-OS updates free (For how long is the question)
-Touch/Stylus Support
-Tablet to PC supported (You can take your hybrid from Tablet to PC mode)

CONS:
-Still questionable how long updates will be free
-OS has become more locked down...User has less control - Essentially requires all fixes, even if you don't want them.
-OS has become more intrusive appears to want to advertise in OS
-OS crashes, although much less than the past
-Although lots of hardware is supported, you will have more problems with drivers, compatibility
-Still have somewhat of a sense of I'm using BETA software - Not as much as previously

MAC:

PROS:
-OS updates free
-Solid/High Quality Hardware
-Excellent/Fluid (Great Eye Candy) GUI
-Amazing battery life
-Quick boot up & log on
-Few OS crashes
-Hardware made to support MAC basically always works w/o compatibility issues

CONS:
-No touch/stylus support without 3rd party hardware/software
-Expensive
-Fewer Apps available (Not nearly as many as Windows)
-No tablet to PC mode (You want a tablet, you use iOS - Of course this is without 3rd party hardware/software support)
-Some MS software isn't as full featured as it is on a PC (Example, MS Office is powerful, but not as powerful as it is on Windows)

Windows 10 is much more optimized for touch, but it still isn't fully optimized for touch - So, you will find things that are just clunky. MAC isn't optimized for touch at all...Period. They don't want it to be. Obviously I want touch/stylus support!

Overall, there's what she's used to & what she will use it for. I agree that it appears (My opinion) like they are putting less effort into MAC & more into iOS. Although they still are putting a lot into the MAC. I would say the future competition (Esp hybrid) will be between iOS & Windows (Maybe on ARM) The iPad is becoming more advanced & surprisingly more competitive with Windows hybrids. What's more 'powerful'? It matters what your needs are.

That all being said, I trust Apple support & their OS being a more complete OS(Much fewer problems) I'm surprised when I find my MAC having an issue. I'm never surprised when my Surface Pro 3 crashes or has some type of issue. Ultimately, as a very experienced Windows user, I would say get the MAC. It's a worthy long term investment. Unless you're willing to jump into iOS world

Windows 10 S or Windows 10 Pro so you can troubleshoot with advanced tools. I would recommend everyone to stay away from Windows 10 Home due to the inability to use advanced tools like group policy editor to troubleshoot.

Furthermore most of her social circle are most likely to be using Windows PCs / Laptops and not Macs as they are far cheaper.
