This photo was shot on March 30, 2015 on Loon Lake in Wixom, Michigan on the first warm and windy day with gusts in excess of 40 mph. The lake had been completely frozen over most of the winter, until this day, "Ice-Breakup Day". The powerful forces of the wind from the east were enough to put in motion an ice sheet 12 inches thick and about half the surface area of this 120 acre lake. Once an ice sheet goes in motion, nothing will stop it.... especially not our neighbors dock and boat lift. Total loss!

Taken in Estes Park, Colorado. My girlfriend and I have made it a tradition to make a road trip out West every summer and spend a week or so in Estes Park! The town itself is stunning, but the real beauty is found when you explore the Rocky Mountain National Park literally adjacent to the town. I used a little bit of filtering in Adobe Photoshop Express to make things pop a little, but most of it is natural beauty. I'm still humbled by the sights everytime I visit.
