These are not the most common responses.

The most common response is, "Is it rich of apps???"

And then my response is, "It's not. But it has all the apps I need".

I have the Lumia 830 and I would be holding it and my friends would say *is that the iPhone 6? ....... I'm like nooooo.....* or they would be like *how do you unlock the screen* ....

I needed a replacement 929 from Verizon and the lady who was helping me told me that I 'must be really technologically inclined to have a windows phone'...
I REALLY don't understand why everyone acts like they're some sort of hard-to-use device. The only hard thing I can think of is navigating the Settings menu!

And even that is getting easier with 8.2!

One of my friend when he saw WP first time he told me why there are so many icons(yes he said icons) on your start screen. It will make your phone slower. (I guess he was thinking WP same as Windows )

When my sis saw my wp phone first time she told me that "isn't this a very messy home screen? It look like apps are going to suffocate as there are no sspace between them.
And even today she find it confusing.

One of the great man said"WP isn't for everyone".
And this is 100% true.

Once my friend asked me with a weird look ''What?? A windows phone??'' I smiled at him and said '' yeah... just to be different from others."
Then I gave him my Lumia 730 asked him to play around with it for a week. (I used a spare mob)

He came back after a week and said ''wow!! It's just super smooth.. App gap is there, but it's OK.. Lemme pick one''. And he picked the same device as mine. Got to know more about windows phone and he is recommending it to others now.

Now that's what MSFT needs to do for their wp OS. Half of the people in Globe have no idea What a windows device is. Make them know about your UI and lagfree OS. Advertise it as a 'lagfree OS'. Mention Android's weak zone is your strong zone in your ads. Advertise about #TileArt... Show customized #TileArt start screens in your ads.. Not simple, big square boxes of start screen'

While this does sound good, most normal people are ignorant & just go with what's hip & happening... Like in India, currently OnePlusOne & iPhone 6 are all the rage, so anyone upgrading just blindly goes for these, without even knowing its features, only that it has social apps & takes good pics.

The fact you said about India is true... Not only India, all over the world. Every people's mind set will be 'Get the one now trending'.
But remember.. My friend, I and you are from INDIA  Other fact is, WP has more market share in India compared to UK and US

Oneplus One and iPhone 6 are one of best phones available in market.

I don't see problem in buying them.
If I can afford iPhone 6 then I might have right now.

But they don't have windoz on them, they are IOS and Android, best hardware doesn't always mean best phone. :)

Windows Phones are suitable for people with the following characteristics:

  1. willing to try
  2. striving for productivity
  3. trust his own judgement/will instead of the trend
  4. be proud of what he is using, regardless of the popularity of that thing
  5. focus on what he needs instead of what a product can provide
  6. and many more...

The fact is, less than 5% of people in the globe possess the above characteristics. Microsoft cannot change this fact. For some people without the above characteristics, they will refuse using WP even if they don't have to pay.

I don't mind WP being "unpopular". There are so many good things in this world that are unpopular at all. I am proud of using this unpopular product because I find it so cool and beautiful.

Be a happy WP user... :)

Most people do not need as many apps as they think they do. If you're ignorant of smartphones, you'll either go with the iPhone, Samsung, maybe even a Moto G. Because these are the phones techies talk about.

Once you actually get a smartphone, and you know what you're talking about, you might give Windows Phone a try. I should have held out for Windows Phone. But I tried Android instead because it was cheaper at the time. This was back when Windows Phone 7 was the option. But I always kept my eye on Windows Phone, because of my struggles with Linux, and I knew that Android was built on a similar background.

I was right. All of the issues that plague low resource Linux PCs plague low resource Android phones. It is cheap for a reason. I still did not want to go high end. I also felt a certain type of way because I was already burnt by two low end Android phones and did not feel as though I had gotten my moneys worth.

Windows Phone isn't everything, but it is more efficient at the few things it does do. Plus, there are things people use apps to do that are better accomplished through baking the functionality into the operating system. If you're stuck on an old version of Android or iOS for fear of bricking your phone you're missing out. Depending on how old that phone is, upgrading the OS may not even be an option. I have that covered for the foreseeable future, at a cheaper price point that I did not have that covered in Android.

There aren't many people that will give Windows Phone a chance as their first phone. That will never change. But Windows Phone makes a good clean up woman. That strategy can work for Microsoft as long as they continue to develop for other platforms. It is critical. I used OneDrive, Outlook and Bing on Android. I wasn't taxed by Google Play Services for it, because Microsoft apps do not require it. The framework for Microsoft apps, on Android, is built in, whereas native Google apps need another app to work. No one ever talks about this. So on Android, the way that it works, you're actually running system apps in addition to the app you're running UNLESS you go with a third party app. Which a lot of people do. But this simply is not necessary in Windows Phone because that process occurs on a deeper level and is hidden out of sight to end users. Cortana will be the icing on the cake because Google Now inflates to 50 MB on top of the 50 MB Google Play Services runs on Android. Google Now was actually cleaner on the iPhone; it still took up a lot of RAM, but again, no Play Services to contend with.

The provincialism I see in the Windows Phone community a waste of energy. Its no water off my back, no one had their hand in my pocket and I don't have a dog in this race. Developers, marketers, salespeople have valid concerns. The rest of us; look, Microsoft does give is some recourse. Windows Phone is not the Kin, and its not the Zune. We're not obsolete, because the market hasn't changed that much since Windows Phone 8.1 first came out, so if you don't get 10, for whatever reason, you still have a good infrastructure in place.

People drool over my L925 and ask me the model. When I tell them they usually comment on how boring Windows is and/or that they wish it had Android. :/ Mindless!
