Would a USB to serial port adapter work on SP3???

Planning on purchasing a Surface Pro 3 soon but wanted to know if anyone has successfully used a USB to serial port adapter on a SP3. Reason I ask is I plan on using a USB to serial port adapter on the SP3 to a Cisco router and using it to study for my CCNA. I plan on building my CCNA lab and wanted to see if the SP3 would work as my lab workstation.

The SP3 is a full fledged PC, so as long as it has the right drivers, there's no reason to believe it won't work.
