Would you purchase the Surface Book all over again?

I probably would not. I had envisioned myself using the clipboard in meeting and such: taking notes in OneNote, having the Ink to Text feature convert it, and save paper and time. However, the Ink to Text feature is awful (or my handwriting...) and the clipboard is a bit awkward to hold for me.

If I had it to do over again, I'd probably get an x360 or xps13, and use either my iPad, or maybe a Surface 3, for meetings/note taking.

As for the actual device and reliability, I experienced many of the bugs that others have reported, but I expected that with a 1st gen Microsoft product. As of now, with all the updates, it's nearly perfect.

There's no middle ground with my SB experience. When the SB is bad it's the worst laptop experience money can buy. When it's good it's the best hybrid laptop one can own. The bug fixes have really turned this thing around to be the best. Still needs more fixes but overall it's way better now than it was on day one. I'd get it again.

Here is another reason why I wouldn't buy it again. My Surface Book is constantly locking up programs like Excel and Chrome. This is probably my #1 issue with this laptop.

Nice. Mine is actually mostly behaving lately (shockingly enough). My biggest current issue (aside from the continued sleep shut downs) is that sometimes it will now just lock up while sleeping and will be warm, but refuse to wake via the power button or anything else I've tried. Only forcing a shut down with a 15-20 sec press of the power button followed by a cold boot will bring it back. I also had a recent Nvidia driver update from around 5/20 (through windows update) that supposedly failed to install, but my driver date in the device manager is newer than I remember...

I had one for a few weeks and sold it again - but I had literally zero issues with it. I sold it because I thought I wouldn't need a Windows laptop anymore for next semester but since I now have to teach CS classes again, I'll need another one. I'm considering buying a SB, but I'm also looking at the new HP Spectre. I don't need the tablet part a lot. If the SB were 300 bucks cheaper, it'd be a no-brainer

I like the keyboard and trackpad so much I've noticed I hardly use the pen or separate the clipboard anymore.

There's a lot of more affordable SB on ebay if you trust buying from there. I just bought a base model one for $1100. Even if it's used, you can find ones in good quality.

No way... Why would I purchase something so unreliable..... When it works it's very nice, but there are so many problems it's not useable as a buisness tool... If it was not for business then I would have bought something else. I feel frustrated that I\we paid for a company to learn about its own product, and now they are bringing out a new model, probably with a lot of things fixed....

What I would like to see is Microsoft offering those that have purchased a Surface Book an upgrade path.... E.g return the existing Surface Book, pay some upgrade cost, and get the new version... As long as the upgrade cost was realistic..... Then let Microsoft rent out the models that are exchanged. At least that way I could have some trust in the Surface Book I owned/purchased, if they are indeed better.

I wish they would do something like this, but if they offer a trade in program, it'll be an awful return on your original investment in the first gen unit, I'm sure (previous trade-in deals have been pretty bad for any trade-in device not named macbook).
