WP8 Needs The "Xbox Phone" As The WP8 Flagship!

The 929 exists in china haha. Someone had 3 verizon 929's on ebay. I think it's pretty clear that it's a real device and Verizon is holding back the launch for some unknown reason. But the specs of the phone align with what the OP suggested. Of course there will be an international version of that phone, which is probably the 1820. I hope they don't use that name though. Lumia 930/940 makes a lot more sense
in just bored with 920 I guess and want a similar device on att to bad but doesn't look like it's gonna happen....i would trade for 1520

Yes that's the intention for it to be a gaming phone with quality elusive titles that cannot be found on Android or iOS, apparently no one here in this thread truly knows the meaning to "flagship" and "niche" I never said this phone would be cheaper than an iPhone5 or Galaxy S4 and I sure as hell didn't say it would out sell them.

It doesn't need to sell 50 million units a quarter, just bring attention and interest into the WP8 platform. Beyond budget phones abroad WP8 devices have been extremely slow to catch on with the US consumer.

I used to be like you wanting a crazy gaming phone with lots of crazy titles, but as time has gone on, i've noticed that playing games on a touch screen sucks. I've played fps games like NOVA, racing games, 3d games, whatever, it's just not as enjoyable. There's a lack of precision in touch controls which ends up leading to a more automatic control system. I say leave gaming for the Xbox/PS3 or a PC elitist :P (I kid I kid) I think WP needs to focus on feature parity with other operating systems and bring unique features to the phone that make interacting with your phone a faster and more enjoyable experience. I know a lot of people who have tried to switch from iOS to WP, and they struggle and eventually get frustrated that they can't do a lot of the things they could in iOS. WP needs an update that totally outshines the others in speed/features/quality.

My bottom line is, I think software will bring more interest than an xbox phone. The 1020 garnered TONS of interest, but still the OS is the weak point.

It won't. You already have the 1020 920 925 and the 1520. We only have the 928, and preowned 822s

I have a 920, which is good. The 1520 is too big. They need a device that suits everyone, and not released just on one carrier.

The 1520 may be too big for you perhaps but not too big for others. With further improvements and better stylus integration it could compete with the Note 3

Well it does actually feel bigger than the note 3. The 1520 isn't as comfortable to hold as the note 3, it pains me to say.

Ok, hold on, lets break down your list..

- 8GB RAM - WHAT?! Why in gods name will any modern phone need this much RAM. NOTHING you do on your phone now, or in the near future will need this. Small steps, lets worry about a 2GB RAM standard, then you can just to 4GB. PLEASE lets be reasonable.

- 128 GB internal hard drive with micro SD support - This (while possible) is useless to most consumers and the technology needed to make it small, light, and usable will offset the cost so high, that consumers will be pushed away.

- 1080P HD display (use screen dimensions from L1520 or L929) - Reasonable, and this is gonna be the new standard very soon. How come you have such a reasonable request for the screen and such out of this world request for other hardware specs?

- 41 MP camera from the L1020 (can be made to fit plush if phone's thickness is equal to Surface's) - *flush not PLUSH, and if you weren't aware, camera Technology is very sensitive. The sensor size is the reason you get such clear photos (especially at night). I think this is unreasonable at this time and IF it can be done, it will cost to much to make it to the mainstream market.

- Best available battery pack with wireless charging and/or removable battery option - I'm guessing you mean latest battery tech for longer battery life? Battery is a hard innovation to push, we're struggling here so what we got is pretty amazing at this point. This is an OK suggestion.

- Free Skype Service - I think Skype is free, and if you mean ability to make calls to other phones outside of Skype I can see this being a problem. That would cost MS an arm and leg to give EVERY WP user free landline calling. I can see a promotional 50 minutes a month or something though.

- Free Xbox Music Service - I can see a GIMPED Xbox music service given, something like this: Every MS ID, gets to download 50 songs for offline use at a time on a single registered Windows Phone. That's pretty appealing. (unlimited streaming and playlist creation of course).

- Full Xbox Live Marketplace - We're working on the Tech and I can see it coming in the future (included with GOLD MEMBERSHIP ONLY). I think they'll need an official controller for windows phone though (like MOGA)

- Free OneDrive Service - They wont give us unlimited as we're using a lot of MS servers. They already offer free space. Unneeded in my opinion.

- Offer on both AT&T and Verizon; contract price down to $200-300 dollars - I think $100 - $200 contract pricing, but for the specs your talking about should be around.. $450 - $550. It should be available globally off through MS Stores and Online; PENTAband, not only for me (Tmobile US) but for our people across the water and borders. EVERYONE should get Microsofts Vision.

How about Just X-Phone (with surface styling) maybe it could have a click on game pad (ala surface type cover) that way they could have hard core games (if you wanted)

WP8 Needs The "Xbox Phone" As The WP8 Flagship! === you still want wp8 on this type of hardware , I would say windows phone 20

Microsoft needs a true flagship device to make a splash big enough to draw more iOS and Android users to WP8 and only one MS brand has the power to do that and that's Xbox. We've heard rumors of a potential Surface phone in the future but as excellent of a product the Surface and Surface 2 have been as well as the awesome Nokia Lumia phones, but neither brands have the power/influence to inspire a mass iOS and Android user exodus to WP8 like a properly executed Xbox Phone could. The Surface and Nokia divisions working together could make one badass phone. Have it be the same material (black or silver) as the the surface with a green or silver Xbox logo engraved on the back and load it up with the absolute best and cutting edge in mobile tech. It should be not only the best smartphone for WP but the best smartphone on the market PERIOD and send shock waves through the tech world.
The best phone does not mean the fastest. A phone with the specs you give would never cause a max exodus because it would cost lots of money. It probably could be sold at cost around the price of the 16GB iPhone (5s) and would have stupidly low battery life.

<snip STUPIDLY HIGH SPECS THAT WOULD TAKE WAY TO MUCH POWER snip>
this is a joke specs, right?

Think of all the millions of 360 and One owners who have iPhones and Androids who could be easily converted to the WP8 ecosystem with the right product. WP8 needs a flagship of the flagship phones that would make the S4 and 5S look silly in head to head comparisons and spec sheets. Sure it wouldn?t be the highest selling WP volume wise but it would bring valuable exposure to the OS that it's not yet getting from the majority of the smartphone consumer market and would also drive up other WP device sales. An Xbox phone of this magnitude would put WP8 at 20-22% market share by the end of 2015 easily had it existed and launched today.
Nope, nada, wrong. I don't have time to explain this now, will try to get back and do it in a day or so :)

What to take away from this thread is that in the long term this device will exist. It will be high end specs it will be Nokia hardware with Microsoft branding. I would bet a fresh new close to surface look about it.

The other thing you have to consider is that even if you give the phone the highest specs in the world, doesn't mean anyone will buy it. The biggest problem with WP is the OS. The reason WP isn't doing well is because of the lack of apps to some people coming from iOS/android and an overall lack of features. Also, people just aren't comfortable enough to just give up their iphone and go to a whole new operating system that they know nothing about.

Now that is a cool idea.

Wait a sec...
Didn't Sony already try a "gaming phone"?
Didn't it fail, miserably?

Crazy specs are fine to write about, but there are two things that I think are necessary (for the real world)...
1: Integrated Xbox 360 controller support (why buy a Moga that supports so few games)
2: More games (Halo, Forza, etc...) and more integration with those games (things are just starting to head that direction)
