sorry, if I'm being simple. But are you saying that you can add apps to the SD card? I thought with WP8 you could only add: videos, photos, music, and documents? If you can, I'd really love to know how to do it. Also, I have tried to install apps from the Store, on a PC, but it always tells me that it can't find the phone, and then sends me an email with a link to the Store, via the phone. Thanks

sorry, you can't do this, at the moment. Should've googled it first :p

If you have been browsing the web for ages and want to completely close internet explorer instead of pressing back a million times, go into tabs and close all tabs then press back once. IE is now closed with 1 click :D

I didn't get to read all the ones before so hopefully this one is a nice surprise for someone....

Hit the search button and activate Bing, then start swiping left and right for goodies!

Okay....just jumped on board WP8 yesterday with the purchase of the 1020. I had been holding on to my Palm Pre 3 with a death grip but the camera on the 1020 brought me over. So far learning some neat tricks, but is there a way to get my emails to be checked more than just every 15 minutes? My Pre 3 allowed me to check more often than that.

Secondly, while I see we can put in our own ringtones for people, can we not add our own ringtones for email and texts? I see some different sounds came installed for those activities, but I don't see how we can use our own sounds. Certainly not a deal breaker, but enjoyed my own sounds for those notifications on my old phone.

So far so good on my transition. My Wi-Fi was going VERY slow at first....but....after turning it off then back on, it is flying now. Thanks for any insite into the 2 questions.

Hi, always happy to see a convert ^_^

Ad1) yes and no, you can use "as items arrive" for push notifications, if supported by the server, otherwise 15 is the shortest refresh interval. You can forward to hotmail if unsupported.

Ad2) no, not at this OS version, let's see what happens in GDR3 and WP8. I stopped caring long time ago.

Here's a tip from a new WP8 and former android user. I just spent 2 weeks setting up my Lumia 928, don't wish that on anyone. While using an app do a soft reset; app works so much better afterwards. My battery tracking app was giving me fits, wasn't getting battery life WP8/Nokia promote then it began charging super slow. Did soft reset while not using battery app, did not take, created other issues BUT when I did soft reset while using the battery monitoring app, works like a charm now, better than before WP8 is a great platform, runs Google apps better than my former android did , user friendly, intuitive and with exception of Bing and IE I can delete any app I want. Love the live tiles. But there are serious syncing issues with that platform. One WP8 app developer communicated to me people are blaming app developers but its a servers not synching issue. He might be right. I dont care Neither my carrier, VZ, Nokia or MS communicate this, they should. Soft reset your apps while using them; MAJOR improvement on my phone's performance, night and day. Thx MS this type of experience is why I switched to a Mac desktop . Too bad great platform WP8 when combined with Nokia's hardware.

Things to help battery life.
Go to your settings.

1.) If you don't always use maps or applications you want to take your location, why not disable Location as this is a very big thing with drains your battery.
2.) Go down to feedback in your settings and disable this, even though when you setup your phone you opt out of feedback, Microsoft still leaves it turned on.
3.) Slide along to Applications and go into "background tasks" and disable the applications you don't want to run in the background, most of these will be draining your battery.
4.) Staying in your Applications section slide down to "music+videos" and if you dont use the Xbox music, disable it as this also will be using a bit of your battery.
5.) Do the same as we dont with music+videos with "games"

Your battery should now last you a lot longer, as mine does, remember small things like this can save you a lot of battery life.

Newbie Nokia 1020 / Windows Phone 8 here ... I've been searching for the answer to being able to allow Internet pictures to not be blocked in emails. It seems the Microsoft notes on this are misleading because they don't match the phone. They reference changing the IE settings (Change privacy and other browser settings | Windows Phone How-to (United States)) however the specific line they mention to show pictures automatically doesn't exist - at least on the Nokia 1020.

I have to believe (assume?) that all the WinPhone users aren't living with this big brother blocking?

Thanks all in advance!

They don't block images from downloading in mail to be big brother. It's to save you data and battery. All you have to do to download the images in a specific email is tap one of them.

Shouldn't my data and battery usage be a CHOICE? I understand all the technical reasons... it goes far beyond data and battery. HTML messages can be used as phishing tools for spammers. If the image is pushed it will validate the email address. But my point isn't a debate about why, it is about user choice. I get 100's of emails a day to my "controlled" work account, a known trusted source. I find it a little lame that I have to click on each one to see it as it was intended graphically. Other phone platforms (android, Apple... even Blackberry) give the user a choice.

Thanks for your reply Rich. Like you I have a plethora of devices under my belt dating back to the mid 80's (yes I'm that old). I will concede that my "big brother" comment might have been a little harsh. I've just been left feeling like the latest and greatest from MS is a step backward. The company use to ask "Where do you want to go today?" is now say "Here's what I wont let you do today."

Hey everybody!!!!

God dammit I'm so angry right now :angry::angry:

My Lumia 820 (German T-Mobile) finally received the CarDAV enabling WP8 update... but still I can't create an account that not just only syncs E-Mails every 15 minutes. Does real IMAP with calendar and contacts sync (still) only work with windows live, google, yahoo and exchange servers?! Or am I doing something wrong!?
