Shouldn't my data and battery usage be a CHOICE? I understand all the technical reasons... it goes far beyond data and battery. HTML messages can be used as phishing tools for spammers. If the image is pushed it will validate the email address. But my point isn't a debate about why, it is about user choice. I get 100's of emails a day to my "controlled" work account, a known trusted source. I find it a little lame that I have to click on each one to see it as it was intended graphically. Other phone platforms (android, Apple... even Blackberry) give the user a choice.
Thanks for your reply Rich. Like you I have a plethora of devices under my belt dating back to the mid 80's (yes I'm that old). I will concede that my "big brother" comment might have been a little harsh. I've just been left feeling like the latest and greatest from MS is a step backward. The company use to ask "Where do you want to go today?" is now say "Here's what I wont let you do today."
Yes, I know of the phishing, and other reasons not to allow pictures to download. I just kept it simple. Yes, it's a choice. You can choose to download the pictures by tapping one. You can choose not to. That's just how Microsoft chose to implement it. Why? I don't know. But that's how it works. If you don't like it, go on over to http://uservoice.windowsphone.com and see if there is an item that fits your complaint and use that, or if not, create a new one. For me, it really doesn't matter what the implementation is, but I happen to like it. Unfortunately, nothing will ever be created before Jesus returns that will satisfy all people. Until then, we live with compromises.
