Xbox Live Problems

I'm having an issue extending my Xbox Live subscription. I bought the 12 month Xbox Live Gold subscription from Amazon because of the sale ($40 for 12 months) but every time I attempt to redeem my code the Xbox website throws up an error. The same thing happens in the Xbox app. Any one else having this issue, and is there a way around it?
