Why doesn't the Keep Wi-Fi on when the screen times out option exists any longer?

"Keep Wi-Fi on when the screen times out" option no longer exists

I really liked this option to save battery life. Now, after 8.1 update, I haven't this option anymore on my Samsung Ativ S.
But it's weird....I'm pretty sure I had it also after the update, but suddenly disappeared without a reason. Seems that I'm not the only one that had this problem. Also here http://forums.windowscentral.com/windows-phone-8-1-preview-developers/275625-2.htm#post2731829
Cristi Vizuroiu said the same thing.
Weird.

Not sure what you mean with save battery live.
But WiFi keeps alive after the screen locks in 8.1. In 8 WiFi was disabled if screen was locked and you had a setting to keep it on. So now it always keeps on if the screen locks. You still can disable wifi but then you have to go to settings and wifi there you can switch it off.

Wi-Fi on with screen off actually make the battery last longer. WC did an article on this way back when MS added that in its first 8.0 update.
