I posted another thread about my app storage growing. It turns out it's actually the system storage. If I move apps over to the SD card the system storage grows until my phone starts giving me low storage warnings and acting up in all kinds of crazy ways.

Deleting the temporary files will free up about 20 MB even though it always says 0.

I haven't had any system updates either. I'm waiting for WP10 to hit for the 1520. With my storage issues that may not happen.

Right now I have 13.97 Used 607.91 free
    Apps 3.28
    email 263.48
system 10.17 (used to be around 8 when I first looked)

Set the date to 10+ years into the future, power off then on, wait 20 minutes. Reset to today, off/on. You'll see a lot of shrinkage.

I recall seeing that 10+ year thing before but didn't pay attention to what it was about.

It's weird that the system space keeps filling the free space like it is. Anyone know what's going on?

Just starting the process now and waiting 20 minutes.

It's been doing this for about two months. :) I've deleted and moved a bunch of apps to keep up with it.

Important the 10+ thing tricks the OS to dump outdated temp files. Try and just let it lie during the 20 minutes.

Sorry man. Was worth a shot. BTW, the system files on my L630 is at 3.31gb. Is your 1520 all ip to date? Have you manually checked for updates?

Yeah, it's on the developer preview. Waiting for WP10 or denim to hit at some point.

    Hmm, I can't see a reason a 1520 would require 10 GB vs. 3 GB on a 630.

That makes no sense. Weird. Hate to recommend, have you tried a hard reset? If you do make sure and back everything up first..

I may need to do that once the WP10 preview is available just to get it installed.

Does doing a restore free up system space? My worry is that will change nothing and then I won't be able to upgrade to WP10 either.

It just ate up another 300 MB I freed by moving more apps to the SD card.

Microsoft just got back to me. Their solution is to do the restore. That's going to be a pita. :) Just hope it works.

Thanks, just looking for the time to do it. With all the updates it's going to take a good part of an evening to get it back.

I just did the restore and it wasn't as bad as I thought. It's a little quicker than an upgrade and the home screen or OS version didn't change. It dropped the system storage to 2.8 GB!

Even though apps were on the SD card it's still downloading them again and reinstalling.

The phone seems to be working better too. Phone feels more responsive, LinkedIn is working again and animations seem a little more fluid.

After a factory rest it's back to growing. Approaching 6GB now. Double the size it was after the rest.

Hi Michail71, it really sucks that the reset didn't work.

My phone is also having the issue that the system storage is growing. It grew with like 2GB over the past week :(. I reached out to WP support, but they gave me no solution that would work, other that a hard reset. But since it does not work, I guess it is pointless to try it if the storage will just start to grow again.

I have a Lumia 930, with Lumia Denim on, no preview software.

Attempting the change date method at the moment.

Changing the date also did not work for me.

Can it be that I am running Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 10074 that my storage keeps on growing? Maybe something in the background is syncing with my phone and this is causing my phone storage to cause issues... Just a wild suggestion...

Can anyone advise if they are also experiencing these issues since installing Windows 10 Preview on their PC's?

    Thanks.

An app could be causing it too. Could try factory reset, then only installing crucial apps. Then one by one installing others.

Hi michail71. Have you found any solution for your problem yet? Maybe a certain app that is causing the issue?
