Why are apps so heavy with WP?

for example I just downloaded this app which is only 1mb on the app store and when I check here on my phone, without using it even once. It says 8mb, why? And the rest is the same, I had to delete vine as I only used it once and it said 175 mbs used. Ugh

Same here. Downloaded wechat at 25mb and now occupies 124mb. I use it a lot but only a small portion of it is app data.
