Microsoft and Nokia-soft (since it's now owned by Microsoft) have helped me pretty much with any problem I have had. They put that limit because software-wise you won't get much support, because the support teams are not fully aware of the problems of the preview software. Also, it is just a liability thing. If you do have any software problems with your phone, though, you can just downgrade to the appropriate version (pre-Developer Preview) and then get the support you need.
