Apparently there's going to be a successor to the Surface Pro 4 which will be named just "Surface Pro". Alcantara type covers, surface pens in the same 4 colors surface laptop will come out with, and the picture even has the same arc mouse that's also beside the surface laptop glamour shots. I don't know if the surface pros themselves would come in the same 4 colors but if that's the case I love me some platinum SP. If it's only the type cover, I want the burgundy.

Considering that both would probably have the same choice of memory, cpu, storage, accessories, ( even ports? sheesh! )would you still go for the surface laptop or go for the detachable 2-in-1? It's the battle of the form factors direct mano a mano.

Between those two? I'd choose the Surface Pro.

But another option that's not listed: I'm a Surface Book user who loves having an actual laptop feel with a detachable display. So if anything, i'll be waiting for the Surface Book 2.

I would definitly go with the Surface Pro jsut for the versatility. If I chose Surface Laptop it would be strictly design/looks and color.

I would rather have surface book, as I can use it like a tablet, full tablet, or Yoga type folded in reverse. Its like all-in-one portable PC.

That would depend on the starting price and if the 2017 Surface Pro would have any significant areas where it performs better than the Surface Laptop. Would probably still go for the Surface Pro since it handles inking better, but I wouldn't mind having any other Microsoft Surface products too.

considering no surface book in the picture I would go for the Surface Pro. I like the versatility it provides.

The surface pro. I like my device ti be versatile and easy to handle. Surface Laptop is great, I like the design, but I don't understand the touch screen, when the screen doesn't open at lease 180 degrees.

I'd pick the surface laptop. Mainly because I dont do as much art as architecture, so a laptop form factor helps me more than the tablet one. Plus its a possibility that I can lose the surface tablet type cover, and then struggle to find a wireless keyboard or buy another cover.

I'm a laptop user through and through. My phone is a big enough tablet for me. I have been considering an e-reader lately so I'm not draining my phone with reading material.

This is a totally subjective question. Some might need keyboard, for others it's just a gimmicky feature (??????). Also, Being a Computer science student, much of the time I would be coding or typing, So for me a keyboard is important. A Ridgid base is also must for me. So a surface laptop will complete my needs.

I'd go for the Laptop looks to be a power house and it has a confirmed date. Better to have one in the hand than two in the brush and all that...

TBH I think surface pro will suit my needs better, since I only need the machine to run matlab for school, and note taking at lectures will be highly useful though if I would win the laptop, I might start writing the app I intended to code for a looonnnggg time, and you know its gonna be UWP ;)

I chose the laptop because my sp4 still works fantastic so I'd like to try out a different form factor. But that's without knowing too much about the new pro. My opinion could change once I know more about the pro

Depending on the price, I'd probably go for the Surface Pro. I'm holding out hope that they still go for USB-C, but as long as the battery life is comparable and it still looks pretty, it offers more versatility.

As a student I still need a device that I can write on for long periods of time, so I'm in the Pro camp.

After watching the #MicrosoftEvent an hour ago, this thread needs an update.

Would you still choose the Surface Laptop after the Surface Pro's Specs were unveiled?
- starts at $799
- 13.5 hours battery life
- new hinge
- accoustically silent (except for i7 variants)
- lightest Pro ever

I love the surface pro, it lets you have both a tablet and a laptop all in one, don't think.ill every go back to a laptop again

Can we use Pen on Laptop for drawing ?
If yes , then surely Laptop.
Else Surface Pro.

For the same price ( AU$1,999 in Australia) you get Surface Laptop - 256 GB / Intel Core i5 / 8GB RAM or Surface Pro - 256 GB / Intel Core i5 / 8GB RAM.
Surface Laptop has a bigger screen and come with a keyboard. Surface pro have to do with smaller screen and buy keyboard separately.
