A. Make sure you SIM card has an active 3G connection (Quickest way to check it is to put your SIM card in another person's phone and see if 3G is active)

B. If it does, make sure you have downloaded the required settings

C. Make sure in Cellular/Network your 3G is turned ON

D. If all else fails, try contacting Windows Phone Support and Microsoft and Nokia Support on Twitter. That's the quickest way to get in touch with them. There is also Microsoft Answers.

ISSUE RESOLVED:

Here's what I did...

WRONG WAY

1. Removed SIM card and Memory Card

2. Went to Settings>About>Reset Phone

3. Endless hours of gears going round and round


RIGHT WAY

1. Put back the SIM card (NOT the memory card)

2. While the gears were going on endlessly, held VOL DOWN + POWER + CAMERA

3. Assumed it started a hard reset again (WITH the SIM card inside)

4. Waited for 45 Mins - 1 hour

5. Pressed VOL DOWN + POWER

6. On the Nokia screen pressed > VOL UP + VOL DOWN + POWER + VOL DOWN


10 mins later Welcome screen!

I assume @xenophos that is for my issue being my phone can no longer be set to 3G...doing all the steps above, did it fix the issue of the phone not being able to be set to 3G post amber update? I tried to reset my phone but now it is stuck on the gear thingy..its been 5 hours or more and it is still doing the same this. I removed everything put it back in, still no use. I'll surrender this at Nokia Care and when it is fixed, I am selling it. This is such a bad experience. I love the phone but this!

I installed amber update for my Lumia 720,but the screen has since frozen.When i do a soft reset the ph restarts but nothing happens,still screen frozen.I can still connect my ph to my pc though.Anybody faced this problem??

Man..I've so clearly mentioned ways to get rid of the spinning gear issue...It's simple...as simple as tying shoe laces..

Just keep the SIM card in...NO MEM CARD..remove it..Then hit these buttons at once: VOL DOWN + POWER + CAMERA - This is the hard reset combination...so the phone will hard reset again...

NOW wait for 45 mins-1 hour..if u still have spinning gears PRESS: VOL DOWN+ POWER...it should reboot and you should see the Nokia screen...

WHEN you are AT the NOkia screen... press the buttons in this combination: VOL UP>VOL DOWN>POWER>VOL DOWN .. NOT AT THE SAME TIME>>ONE AFTER ANOTHER...

Now wait for 10 mins...u will see a welcome screen...

soft reset ur phone again,but when the phone turn off and viberate,hold the vol button before the nokia icon appear..ur screen will show this ( ! ) icon..than u can hard reset from there with the hard reset combination key.

Since 720 nonremovable battery u can't do that to start new switch on...u stock in screen on.

Hi there.. In case ur Lumia is stuck on any screen, you can do a soft reset easily. All you need to do is hold down the 'Volume down' and 'Power/Lock' key simultaneously for 10 secs. That will first close and & reset the current state of any open application and then it will restart the phone forcefully.

Hie guys.
After updating to AMBER, i`m not able to use voice recognition which previously i was using. I did all the options to turn on in speech setting but in language option it says downloading english (india) though iafter that is take me to PHONE UPDATE page where it says your phone is up to date. What to do now..? Help me out.

You need to download the language. Once its ready to download, it'll install like a phone update. After the update, you can use the voice recognition service.
