So, I recently did some benchmarks using Rightware for both Basemark OS and Basemark X on my Lumia Icon prior to the 8.1 update. Overall results are noticeably better with 8.1. Basemark X improved from around 23,500 to 25,780 and Basemark OS went from 997 to 1064. I can't say much about what it means but after I ran the benchmark for Basemark OS, it awarded me the bronze medal and said that it beat the third best OS on Powerboard, "by far". It wasn't in the top ten prior to this. For reference, the 1520 is ranked at number 10 with a slightly faster clock speed than the Icon. Either way, my testing shows that 8.1 is verifiably faster.

Since this time, I ran Basemark OS after a quick power cycle and put up 1100 points. Kind-of surprised no one seems to be talking about this. Guess there is alot going on with 8.1. If this holds true for other Windows Phone models, I basically means that the platform is performing better on lower spec hardware than Android or iOS. That seems like more than a footnote.
